Sunderland striker Darren Bent has decided to quit Twitter in order to concentrate on helping the Mackems stay in the Premier League, much to the delight of his manager Steve Bruce.
“I have to solely focus on getting Sunderland out of the relegation battle and I have shut the Twitter down. I don’t even go on it any more to look at what other people are posting. My friends are still on there and they keep me up to date, but I felt for me, it’s run its course and I should get out of it.” – Darren Bent on kicking class A distraction ‘Twitter’.
Bruce was delighted at the news and even more delighted that his star-man did not need to hit rehab to cease using Twitter:
“When things aren’t going too well for your team especially, it’s a good thing to be seen to be focusing entirely on your football.” - Sunderland manager Steve Bruce.
In fact, Bent was so worried about how his use of 140 character messages might affect his goal scoring ability that he felt the tweeting had to go:
“I’ve not stepped back because of anything that’s been said on Twitter to me or about me, It became a distraction I didn’t need. I thought I would fully concentrate on the football.”
Bent will also be quitting; eating, sleeping, driving, talking, watching films, cooking, listening to music and any other activity that may cause him to be distracted from his 2 hour-a-day job. He is also considering quitting football to concentrate on playing for Sunderla-oh, that’s right–he did that already.

wasn’t he scoring goals by the bucketload whilst he was tweeting.
