Adding insult to gunshot injury

Please, I'm begging you, let me leave

Kodjovi Obilale is the backup Togo goalkeeper who took a bullet to the back during that horrific attack on his team’s bus last month. After the shooting, Obilale was airlifted to South Africa for treatment with the promise that host nation Angola would pick up the bill. They have not, and now Obilale is obliged to stay in South Africa until the bill is paid.

The 25 year old netminder plays for French amateur side GSI Pontivy. That club’s president, Philippe Le Mestre, has highlighted his player’s troubles leaving South Africa. Le Mestre says that Obilale has been cleared medically to leave but that his plane has been blocked from leaving until €65,000 is paid. Word is that, while Angolan officials have been to visit Obilale while he was in recovery, no one has been able to get them to sign off on a promissory note for the medical and travel fees incurred.

Angola–still mishandling the African Cup of Nations after it has completed. Expect the CAF to ban Obilale for life because he had the temerity to get shot in a manner that was not financialy feasible for him to pay back himself.
