As a former defender I understand that sometimes you just don’t get the job done. Sometimes you get run ragged by a player that is much faster or more skilled than you, sometimes you just get there a little too late with a tackle.
In my current incarnation I am a GK, and there are few things more sickening than the feeling of watching a defender get beaten and knowing that his response is going to be a horrible tackle (especially if that tackle is going to happen in the area). For your viewing pleasure, after the jump you can find some great video of truly horrible defending. Seriously, these guys should be ashamed of themselves – I can’t believe that they are professional footballers.
First up we have the incredible skills of ADO Den Haag’s Timothy Derijck. After getting abused on the dribble by Feyenoord’s Georginio Wijnaldum, the defender manages to take out two of his own teammates. His tackle on the second guy is particularly painful.
Oh, that’s some fine work right there. But at least Derijck only injured his own players – this next video features guys making tackles on opposing players that could be prosecuted in court.
I’ve seen some bad tackles in my day, but those guys take things to an entirely different level.

I hate it when I am matched up against some forward who has blazing speed. I always just hope his touch is off.
The first clip should be introed by Mike Golic on one of those Saturday morning sports blooper shows, to the tune of Yakety Sax.
Wait, were there three clips from the same game in that?
Words cannot describe the sheer glee I felt on that first video.
@Tim – yes, Inter’s match this past weekend saw a flurry of action and cards
I had a sneaking suspicion a dutch team would somehow feature in this post. But yeah, derijck (witc CK, cause he’s BELGIAN) is terrible. interesting side note: former Feyenoord youth product. So maybe he was just trying to help his old team a little bit
