The more I watch that de Jong challenge, the worse it gets. I honestly don’t expect the ref to see that at full speed, but in slo-mo, that’s a red card. Frankly, I don’t see how it’s much different from what Shawcross did to Ramsey. De Jong went in studs up right on Holden’s ankle.

Part of me was hoping Mikey would get the red mist and throw a leg-breaker out there on De Jong after that one.

Oh, and I saw this quote in the Soccernet recap of the US-Dutch game. Perfect description of US soccer by van der Vaart.

“A robust side,” van der Vaart said in Dutch, when asked what he thought of his opponents. “But not great in terms of quality. Hard to play against though. They played compact, we had trouble getting through. Soccerwise they’re not great but they’re hard to beat.”

This is what an Italian’s gotta do to get some Serie A coverage around here? Bite somebody?

  4. Yes. Be more interesting down there.
