…So they spend every other summer pretending football doesn’t exist, their domestic league is rubbish–even the greatest Scottish managers think so; But do football managers from north of the border working in England really have to bite the hand that feeds? They hate the country they live in that much? Want to see the people around them miserable?
Why are Scottish people so desperate to see England fail? They don’t like us–I get it–I don’t like them either when it comes to football, but seriously…
No, I’m not talking about the t-shirts that they are selling in Scotland–I actually find those amusing, they just point to jealously and envy. Have at it Scotland, you’ve laughed at my tears before–feel free to this summer. At least we get to the point where tears are needed.
What I am talking about is Alex Ferguson (and maybe David Moyes among others?) offering advice to inept US coach Bob Bradley on how to beat England on June 12th.
Bradley has been visiting Manchester United’s training ground to watch Rooney, Rio, Carrick and Brown–But he’s not just there to spy on England’s players, he is apparently getting advice from Fergie on how to beat them! Somehow I can’t imagine Fabio Capello doing the same, maybe because Capello isn’t out of his depth or tactically redundant.
If Bradley really needs the help and information he can’t find by watching England play on video, he must truly be a football idiot, not worthy of the great job he has–Did he cheat on exams at school too? Bradley has admitted he has visited Manchester United’s training ground ‘at different times’ on his trips to England:
“I have been in Europe a lot lately and I’ve had the chance to catch up with different people, I appreciated those opportunities, whether it was watching training sometimes or communicating about our players. “
Hmmm, how many American players at United to visit and watch? None!
Yes, this is a screed to a degree–I feel the urge from time to time; I actually live in the states, my wife and kids are American and want the USMNT to go through to the second round of the World Cup-I’ll cheer for Landy Cakes and co in every other game except for the one against England, I also cheered for the US to beat Canada in the hockey–I want my American friends to be happy! So why am I so irritated?
Because secret trips to training grounds to blatantly spy on your opponent training, and using said trips as a guise to get help with playing them from great (but bitter and jealous) managers– is pathetic–akin to cheating…and I loathe cheats. Not only that, but it devalues the hard work and image of the US team’s players who always give it their all.
I’m sure Fergie’s English players are chuffed at the revelation.
I hope you got a good look Bob, but If I was you I’d check out Slovenia and Algeria–that’s who you’ll need to beat to progress this summer and I’m not sure Fergie can help you with those.
As for Sir Alex–Enjoy watching your country in the World Cu…Oh that’s right!

Someone’s a little sore huh? Heaven forbid the overwhelming overdogs with 0 respect for Americans (despite how many playing in England? 3 out of 20 teams with a US keeper for chrissakes) and a s**t-ton of resources had to deal with a coach seeing a club train. Something no one has ever seen before. I’m sure the Mexican coaches would let Capello look at Torres play if he wants to. Either way I’ll cheer when they’re in tears again, though I know it most likely won’t be under an American sword. You have great players but still are horribly overrated.
If they were really “secret” trips, and Bradley was really “spying”, then why the heck would he talk about it to the media?
Bradley’s such an idiot, he probably doesn’t realize how much of a d-bag he seems like. I do think it’s funny, though.
i can’t wait for the end of the bradley era
Also, you don’t think that when Mexico comes to Wembley in May, Aguirre wont’ be giving Cappello some tidbits about the US?
@Ryan–it seems it was eeked out of him-large mouth.
@Arkie Yeah a little moody today. This points out what a rubbish manager he is–sad really.
@Ryan
Oh and absolutely not. Capello doesnt travel to seek advice, he is confident (and cpable)in his ability as a manger to watch tape and figure it out. Maybe the US should just hire Fergie.
@Ned: I think I would auto-orgasm if the USMNT was managed by Fergie. OK, maybe that’s TMI…
And agreed about Capello not needing the help. Bradley is just sad. I’ve said a hundred times, the USMNT wins despite him, not because of him. I watched the Honduras away match (the one on closed circuit TV) with a huge group of people who all started to cry when BB put Casey on the field. Two easy goals later, Bradley’s suddenly a genius. It sucks.
@Ryan: To be fair, Aguirre’s tips would consist of:
“Play them at the Azteca with Mexican refs while your fans lob Ziploc-encased fecal missiles and Coke-cup vomit bombs at them during every corner kick.”
Dear Ned the Shortshanks,
This is bob bradley! who cares? if you went to visit a nuclear scientist every so oftne and chatted him up on his work, would you be able to build a nuclear bomb? No. Now go grab your lube and hanky and start that clip from Braveheart when they torture Mel Gibson.
@Ned yes he’s an idiot but what do you expect from the USMNT? We need a foreign coach. But all I’m saying is c’mon, you’re England. This is something that we’re relative minnows at, and that no one even in our country gives a s**t about. And you’re… England! It’s what you get for those taxes! And 1812! I mean what was up with that war?
I see no reason not to use this thread to revive my mantra:
BRADLEY OUT!
TLL FTW
@Arkie
All I’m saying is that he’s poop and needs to go. If someone was doing my job for me, i’d get canned.
mentioned here too Ryan…He let slip.

@Phil You forgot, “If a Panamanian runs near you on the sideline, kick him in the junk”
I have no problem with Bradley visiting any grounds to see players live; why not gather as much info as you can both from game film and live viewing? and if Fergie is willing to discuss his players w/ Bradley, then how can BB be faulted? I know everyone on here wants him out and thats fine, I’m with you, but in regards to this story if anything he is going the extra mile to gain as much info on the opponent as he can. And England fans should be pissed at Fergie here, not BB
@UKhanDolt and I said he was bitter and jealous–I think this is just another sign that BB is clueless. Alarm bells should be ringing if he;s getting advice from other coaches.
@Ned
THIS is what has alarm bells ringing about Bradley?
He’s from Jersey, which is nice. Unfortunately he’s also an atrocious game manager, and quite honestly, an MLS (at best) coach. The USSF doesn’t inspire confidence that we’re ever going to have a good enough coach. Bob Bradley? BRUCE F**KING ARENA!?!?
Also, why are the Scottish so jealous? probably because they’re f**king Scottish!
So, I guess there is no reason for England to play against Mexico in an international friendly then either, Ned? I mean they aren’t even playing the team, but I am damn sure Capello is using it as an opportunity to scout the US through a common opponent.
The fact that you decry the scouting of an opponent or seeking of advice from another party is incredibly shortsighted. I’m pretty sure Capello rings up people to find out about players, it’s what any good manager would do. This doesn’t mean Bradley is a good manager, but at least he’s doing something. Surely it’s not indicative of incompetence, there are plenty of other things that Bradley does that suggest incompetence, but this isn’t one.
I guess my only problem with Bradley doing this is if the things Ferguson told him were truly told in confidence, and under no circumstances was he to let that out. If so, that would mean he’s probably burnt some very valuable bridges for the future.
Could come back to bite Bob when he’s managing Liverpool in two years.
What a strange article. How stupid would BB be if he turned down advice from Fergie? Jesus, it’s not like he hit up Phil Brown for advice…it’s Sir Alex! If Fergie was willing to talk, then BB would be a fool not to.
Also, how does someone “blatantly spy”?
Remember: a cat can look at a king!
Because secret trips to training grounds to blatantly spy on your opponent training, and using said trips as a guise to get help with playing them from
I was waiting for the sarcasm tag but it looks like someone is not taking his meds.
What do you think hes gonna learn ‘spyyyyyyyyyyying’…
that england has one true star, Rooney, a very good Lamps, a three man joke in nets, question marks on defence, a mediocre midfield led by a slumping Gerrard and a forward line which is sad once you pass Rooney.
This is the start of the british fans falling apart and starting the blame game.
But the paranoia is starting early this time around.
Bradley’s a rubbish manager, but you can’t fault him for scouting his opponent. Why would he turn down an opportunity to see in person what he is watching on tape? That would be ludicrous! This is a non-story. He’s doing his job. You may not like him, but you can’t fault him for trying to do his job. There are lots of other things you can trash him for, pick one of those.
@noel –Pthats my point.
@TFA – We will likely be meeting a South American side in the second round–Capello prepares properly, like requesting different referees.
Playing Mexico makes sense, I doubt he is going to get advice from their manager, however. There is a difference between chatting to a manger and visiting on numerous occasions to learn how to beat a team from a better manger who hates them.
Hire Fergie if BB is clueless.
@Lisa, theres a difference between scouting and getting advice on how to manage a game because you are incapable of doing your job yourself–Pay Fergie and make him part of the US team. Just think it devalues the hard work ethic of US player if their manager needs another manager to do his job.
He was there to get help–Watching Wayne Rooney and 2 bench players does not warrant many trips to Carrington. Does it?
“We will likely be meeting a South American side in the second round”
C’mon Ned, now you’re just reaching. There is no way you can play a South American team in the 2nd round.
