The Reds visit the JJB today in the hopes of staying in the hunt for the fourth and final Champions League spot. The return of Fernando Torres last week helped spur Liverpool to a victory with his goal and Steven Gerrard finally re-appeared in that match as both men scored. Every match for Liverpool from now until the end of the season is a must win as Aston Villa, Tottenham, and Manchester Citeh are all vying for fourth.

MH: Let’s start with Babel and Lucas. Anything else would just be the icing on that cake.
Tyler is chuckling watching this. Seriously. He laughed as Nzogbia dribble with five Reds following.
Proof that you don’t need big names to succeed in the EPL. Just a hard-working bunch who play well together. Wigan have been full value for a win tonight. They deserve nothing less.
Oh look, it’s Babel running aimlessly towards the corner flag and isolating himself from his team mates! Never seen that before.
@JT Mmmmmmmmmmm cul de sac
Honduras 1, Liverpool 0
Babel wants out already, so that’s a given. I’m thinking Lucas actually likes it here, and to be fair to him he is trying…he’s just not very good.
I can see Masch and possibly Gerrard wanting out. Something about Gerrard this season makes me think that, after coming so close last season, he now wants to win something again and is disillusioned here. Performances like this aren’t helping his case.
@ James – Colombia?
Note to Insua: WIGAN IS TALLER THAN LIVERPOOL. PLEASE KEEP THE BALL DOWN.

“The last time Martinez got the better of Benitez was in a youth team game between Real Madrid and Zaragoza!”
Alright, it’s time to leave work and I think that, at worst, I’ll miss another Wigan goal. Have fun, y’all.
I believe Rafa will soon be walking alone.
Well, that was definitely worth watching…..nice game by Wigan…..and the ref, and the commentators
As Danny Baker likes to say – he’s a good manager in charge of a great club.
I don’t even remotely care if Gerrard leaves anymore. Something happened to him that he either doesn’t give a f**k or is just past it. If someone if willing to pay forty million, you make that deal.
I still don’t think we need to sell due to losing out on the CL, Purslow has made it clear that we don’t need to, people seriously overestimate that money. The difference in the new shirt sponsorship alone covers most of the money lost from getting to the group stages.
But if players want to leave because they don’t think they’ll win there, I can no longer hold it against them. This team is not winning a trophy under Rafa, that is clear enough. Without two incredible performances from Gerrard the cabinet would be bare under Rafa. This is the guy who played a CL Final with Bolo Zenden and Mark Gonzalez.
But I think Torres will stick it out, he seems to actually care. Granted if City offer 100 million you have to make that deal, because no player let alone an absurdly injury prone one, is worth that. But unless you get rid of Rafa it won’t matter, because he will spend it poorly.
I’m absolutely ashamed of being a Liverpool fan right now. Massive changes are needed and have been for three years running.
I guess Xabi Alonso meant more to Liverpool than I initially suspected.
EF: he was really good in getting opposing players sent off for rough tackles, after which we could press the 11-on-10 advantage and go on to win.
JT: Great tactical success!!
