QT: No Fabregas To Face Porto

A hex on the vile Burnley cur who dared traipse near Cesc’s hallowed footsteps and inflame the lad’s precious muscles: the young Spaniard, who re-tweaked his hamstring in the could-have-been-a-nine-goal-win-but-wasn’t over the weekend, will miss the CL 2nd leg with Porto tomorrow night. The Gunners are trailing 2-1 on aggregate, but if Nicklas Bendtner can convert one of the nine million chances he’s given they should be fine. Especially with Sol Campbell back to full fitness!

I’m not a Gooner, but I wouldn’t want Nicklas starting tomorrow, not because he missed all those chances, but because he laughed about it while coming off and when he got to the bench.

@Hadley: Normally I’d agree but it was just such an extraordinary display of ineptitude, you almost have to laugh about it or you’d drive yourself mad. Sometimes you just have days like that and you have to accept it. I actually appreciate Nicky’s reaction more than if he’d gone on a Lucozade bottle kicking rampage on coming off. He seemed to recognize the absurdity of it and that it just wasn’t his day. By the way, did Jeremy St. Louis ever contact you about being his pronunciation guide?

Nope. He said I’d be fired within 5 minutes, but I didn’t get the chance.

I’m on the fence. On the one hand, I agree with Goat that when you perform so shockingly at something you have to laugh it off to avoid getting discouraged and losing confidence. On the other, this was hardly the first time Pink Boots has displayed supreme ineptitude in front of the goal. Perhaps a more appropriate reaction would have been a wry smile and shake of the head.

The only thing we can take away from Lil’ Nicky’s “performance” was the effort he put forth. He never quit, just wasn’t his day.

Caveat: How much “effort” does one need to exert against Burnley?

Caveat Deux: This is the last “just wasn’t his day” I’m giving to the Dane.
