Turkey Making A Run At South America For The Crazy Fan Title

It's like Mexico without the fans and the urine.

Last weekend the Greek Turkish Super League match between Diyarbakırspor and Bursaspor was called off after the 17th minute when fans began throwing projectiles onto the field. If you think that the 17th minute seems a bit early for fans to get that unruly, you would be right. In November during the reverse, Bursaspor fans chanted offensive and racist chants towards Diyarbakırspor which has been linked to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party.

Ah, good old political football tied up with real football. That explains the enmity of the fans. It also explains the resourcefulness of the fans.

Instead of bringing their own projectiles, the fans smashed up the stadium concrete. Which explains the need for riot police protecting the players on the pitch, seen on the right.

South America, you are on notice. You will need to up your game this weekend.

One more picture after the jump.

They even got the linesman.

Solid reporting.

Always a good choice to burn opposing faction's flag.

  1. randome pedant

Wow you must really be trying to piss the turks off. Calling it the Greek Super League and a Kurdish controversy – why not just throw in an Armenian Genocide and imply Ataturk was a pedophile.

That’s what happens when you write late at night.

  3. F**k pissing off the turks, you’ve pissed off the Greeks.

I hope you enjoy your chicken brochettes and souvlaki with a milky glaze because from now on that’s how they’ll be served to you.

“…and imply Ataturk was a pedophile.”

    He wasn’t?
