Eh Oh…NO!

Gary Neville’s plans to act out his Bilbo Baggin’s fantasy and live underground have hit a slight snag. Neville has been planning an eco-friendly underground dwelling (picture after the jump) built into the hills on ‘green belt’ (protected) land, near his current home in Bolton; However,  the neighbors are not happy and hundreds have protested at a public hearing over red Nev’s new home.

Part of Neville’s plans include a 50ft wind turbine that local folks think will be noisy. While good for the environment, the energy producing sails are ugly and this is likely the reason for the protests and not the noise, as the nearest neighbor would be 500ft away.

Neville's new 'Telly Tubby' home

Neville’s proposed, 8,000 square foot futuristic home is set to feature solar panels and a source heat pump. The millionaire footballer will be driving to training in a Prius next! He does? Really? Red Nev is really ‘green Nev’.

It’s not the first time that Neville’s neighbors have been unhappy, they complained when he installed a giant Manchester United hedge at his current home. The plans for Teletubbie hill are currently under review with Bolton council and a decision on his application is expected in April.

  1. The Stretford End

If it wasn’t so green, this would be the perfect lair for a James Bond villian.

“No, Mister Drogba. I want you to DIE.”

  2. Do soccer players have the same problem with bankruptcy after their playing careers as American professional athletes?

  3. Keith

The funny thing, TSE, is that a lot of Bond villains also propped themselves up as environmentalists. HMMMMMMM.

Liverpool v. lille just kicked off.. why the hell is it so early?

  5. The Stretford End

Good point. If we ever see Nev petting a white cat, I’m running away.

as a soon-to-graduate architecture student, i feel like i can say this: any architect who designs a green house in the shape of a flower should have his license taken away.

    Josh:

As a recently graduated architecture student (2 years ago) I can say this: get used to designing things you don’t like or agree with. Especially residential design. Architecture patrons are rare so, more often than not, what the client says goes (provided it’s mostly legal and stuff). Now architects who voluntarily design flowers is another issue altogether.
