Daylight Savings Time Bootroom

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day

Hey, if you’re in the USA of A, did you remember to spring your clocks ahead? Yup, we are now an hour ahead, but still four hours behind Europe, which means that the start times are all screwed up today. I’ll try to walk you through it below.

Only two EPL matches on the sched today, but ESPN2 has Barca at 2pm (supposedly at least… things are always subject to change on tWWL). And if, like me, you are on the East Coast, it sure is a good day to stay inside.

(All times EST)

EPL
—–
9:30 Manchester United vs Fulham (Fox Soccer Plus)
12:00 Sunderland vs Manchester City (FSC)

Rest of the World
—–
10:00 Juventus vs Siena (ESPN360.com)
10:00 AS Livorno Calcio vs AS Roma (FSC, ESPN360.com)
11:30 Ajax vs PSV (ESPN360.com)
12:00 Villarreal vs Deportivo Xerez (Gol)
12:30 Bayer Leverkusen vs Hamburger SV (ESPN360.com)
2:00 Barcelona vs Valencia (ESPN2, ESPN360.com)
2:00 Bayern München vs SC Freiburg (Gol)
2:00 Nacional Funchal vs Benfica (ESPN360.com)
3:45 AC Milan vs Chievo Verona (FSC)
4:00 Real Valladolid vs Real Madrid (Gol)

    F**kin’ Shrek.

  2. Rich

Glad I got up for the Roma game. Also what is with the cannon shot noise around minute 29? Do they allow starter pistols in the stadiums along with flares? WTF

  3. Orr

Between Catania-Inter, Napoli-Fiorentina, and this game, good advertising for Serie A this week. For a change!

  4. Goat

    Deuce is playung?

  5. jjf3

Started, got pulled for Nevland about 5 mins ago

  6. Ryan

United’s 2nd leading scorer at it again?

  7. Ryan

Ah, no own goal. Berbatov got it I guess.

  8. Nathaniel

Ordered the package on foxsoccer.tv about 30 minutes ago.

    Still don’t have a valid account. I’m getting a bit upset…

  9. Orr

Spirited performance by Livorno here so far. Lucarelli’s hat-trick completed by the PK makes it 3-3, 20 minutes to go.

    /turn it on

  10. @Nathaniel I ordered about 15 minutes before KO and it was working about 10 minutes into the game. Did you try restarting your browser?

  11. Orr

Well, anticlimactic. But a good game nonetheless.

  12. jjf3

and now, the highlight of this weekend’s schedule: Sunderland-Citeh.

    C’mon, Barcelona-Valencia!

  13. ebullientfatalist

Mancini does not look pleased. But my! What a scarf!

  14. Sunderland is just bossing it right now.

  15. jjf3

I love this color/analyst guy: he sounds like the bat-s**t crazy English grandfather I never had as a kid.

  16. Ryan

Just got back from church. How shambolic was the goal exactly? And why is the useless Paraguayan already subbed on?

  17. Your first problem is that you went to Church. Your second problem was that Jones scored a beauty of a goal. Your third problem is that Bridge had an injury that brought Santa Cruz on. Your fourth problem is that Citeh seems like it just wants to come in late on tackles and get yellow cards. Your fifth problem is that the defense is just lazy.

  18. Ryan

Yeah, holy cow. From the last 10 minutes that I did see, that looked horrendous.

  19. Orr

Yeah, not very good, only one goal though, which I fear will come back to bite Sunderland

  20. Ryan

SWP really making a case for that new contract.

  21. Ryan

That ball was never out of play, all the same though, time to take SWP off, bring on Adam Johnson.

  22. Ryan

Oh my, what a horrendous decision.

  23. Orr

Good play from Gordon, this couldn’t really be Steve Bruce’s gameplan, could it?

  24. Ryan

    YOU STUPID PARAGUAYAN

  25. Orr

Bellamy has to square that back

  26. jjf3

I guess Gordon might have been worth all that cash Keane paid for him…

  27. Orr

    Woooooow, what a shot

  28. ebullientfatalist

    Wow. Adam Johnson. Amazing.

  29. Precious Roy

    Wow.

  30. Orr

    also, damnit!

  31. Ryan

Umm Adam, great goal and all, but go grab the ball and get another one eh?

  32. spectator

Damn Adam Johnson! That was a beauty. Harsh to Sunderland, who have looked like the better team today.

  33. Ryan

    Go back to South America!

  34. Ryan

Not bad all things considered I guess. Wright-Phillips shouldn’t have been allowed 70 minutes to flail around before he was subbed, but that’s hindsight I suppose. Wonderful goal by AJ.

  35. Orr

I’m sure I’ll see you all back here for some sweet Serie A action at 3:30

  36. Keith

    Serie. . . A?

    /Deadspinned

  37. jjf3

The Camp Nou pitch looks as beautiful as a baseball diamond on Opening Day.

  38. Precious Roy

And that goal from Messi was splendid.

  39. Anonsters

And that goal from Messi was splendid.

    All three. Magic.

  40. spectator

Nice hattrick from Messi…. I sure do hope that Engerland play Argentina at some point during the WC. Be nice to see Rooney vs Messi, assuming that Rooney doesn’t break his metatarsal in the meantime.

  41. James T

I love it! LFC lose on Monday, then Villa and Citeh both oblige by dropping points.

  42. Keith

yeah, JT, but that assumes that Rafa can best AVRAM!

and, going off of (a) last season’s results, and (b) Ned’s predictions, that was a point gained from the Villa.

  43. Keith

And what you said, Anonsters. The second and third goals, especially.

  44. Ryan

@JT And meanwhile Spurs are running away with things.

  45. Anonsters

@JT And meanwhile Spurs are running away with things.

I was watching Bangladesh v. England cricket last night, live from Bangladesh, and as England utterly slaughtered Bangladesh, they cut away to a dude in the stands. A very large dude. In a speedo.

I only noticed later, upon sending the screenshot to friends, that the dude had a Tottenham logo tattooed on his left arm. Oy.

(And yes, I have the screenshot, so it happened.)

  46. Ryan

Higuain is going to look fantastic in a City shirt next year.

  47. Precious Roy

Too bad he couldn’t do that into an open net against Lyon.

  48. jjf3

Seedorf with a stunner in the 90th.

  49. Orr

    Seedorf Yes!!!!

  50. Orr

1 point back!! Come on Milan!

  51. Ryan

Wow, Marcotti just tweeted Beckham ruptured his Achilles- out for 3 months, no World Cup.

  52. Precious Roy

Look on the plus side, he’ll have an excuse for his customary miss of the fist half of the MLS season.

  53. Orr

Very tough for Becks, especially since this would have been his last World Cup

  54. James T

No Beckham in South Africa? I approve

  55. jjf3

As much as I’m sick to death of Beckmania(and it wasn’t a certainty he’d go to SA), I actually kind of feel bad for him…I felt like he at least deserved the opportunity to prove he belonged in the squad…

what a shame he doesn’t even get that chance…

(and I actually enjoyed that he took the boot to the face early in the game).

  56. Ryan

I think it would be awesome if Adam Johnson got a shot. SWP can rot as far as I’m concerned.

  57. Anonsters

SWP can rot as far as I’m concerned.

Yes, but just think what Zombie SWP would do to Citeh’s locker room.

  58. Georger

What did Messi have on his shirt?

  59. jjf3

MG: what do you mean? The middle badge was the FIFA Champion of Champions badge from winning the World Club Cup…

  60. Anonsters

What did Messi have on his shirt?

My GoogleFu tells me it said: “Para Vos Valen”

    http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_nD6ybg9ftgk/S51XEzuKJoI/AAAAAAAACsM/pr4-_6lRb-M/s1600-h/messi.jpg

  61. jjf3

Oh, s**t, forgot he kept lifting his shirt when he scored. Never saw it in any live shot…

  62. Anonsters

Valen is, apparently, a niece who has “just arrived” according to Teh Goog Translation of this page:

    http://elcomercio.pe/noticia/446940/quien-misteriosa-valen-quien-lionel-messi-dedico-suhat-trick

  63. Ryan

    @Anonsters
Well, he would certainly enjoy feasting on the corpse of Patrick Vieira
