For those of you with only half an eye on the MLS, here is a quick round-up of last week’s action.
Let’s start with Real Salt Lake at Houston last Thursday; en-fuego forward Javier Morales scored his third goal of the season to give the visitors the lead after 16 minutes. At the other end of the pitch, defender Jamison Olave proved the villain as he not only gave away one penalty, but two — in the space of 3 minutes! Brad Davis converted both spot kicks to take the points. 2-1 Houston, final score.
More after the jump.
At the Home Depot derby on Thursday night, the Galaxy took the bragging rights over neighbors, Chivas with a 2-0 win. USMNT World Cup wannabe Edson Buddle joined Morales on 3 goals for the season, bagging an impressive brace. Both were assisted by (surprise, surprise) Landon Donovan; the striker’s first goal came after 6 minutes when he met a Landycakes cross to head home. The Buddle double was completed 3 minutes from time as Donovan beat his man down the left to roll Buddle a sitter.
Highlights below:
On Saturday, the Rapids threw away 3 points at home to Chicago as ex-Fulham striker Collins John got off the mark along with his strike partner, Brian McBride. Colorado took the lead through Omar Cummings before a John header leveled the score. The second half brought two early penalties; Casey scored his for the Rapids and McBride saved a point for the Fire after Nyarko was fouled by Marvell Wynn. 2-2 final score.
The New England Revolution pulled a smash-and-grab in DC as super sub Kenny Mansally nabbed two late goals. The Revolution then ran to the coach and left town before United noticed that the points were gone. Final was 2-0 to NE.
My Red Bulls continued their solid start in Seattle, where they won on the road for the first time in 28 attempts; Mac Kandji volleyed the winner mid-way through the first half from a Linpere corner (that fell favorably) to give the Bulls the only 2-0 record in the Eastern conference. NY continued to look solid at the back as rookie Tim Ream put in yet another impressive performance alongside Mike Petke. Joel Lindpere also continued to look like a super signing. 1-0 NYRB.

Marvell Wynn sucks. Also “coach”? Did they also smoke a fag after the game while riding the lift back to their hotel room?
This has nothing to do with footie, but every time I see a comment from Goat I think of that song by cake whose chorus is “Sheep go to heaven, goats… go to hell.”
That is all.
D.C. United controlled possession for most of the first half and a large part of the second, but they only created like 3 or 4 decent chances (all which they fluffed). Then out of nowhere NE stick it up D.C.’s pooper and the game is over. Mansally’s second goal was a lovely one, though, curler from 15 or so yards. Next time I go I’m sitting on the other side of the stadium, where not everyone stands up the whole f**king time. Too old for that s**t.
Only 11,000 or so in Denver last Saturday. Disappointing.
@Goat
Did they walk to the hotel?
.
I think they took a lorry.
