SASIC: Copa Lib Edition

Maybe South America is becoming a victim of its own success. They’ve really set the bar high for crazy, so much so that we really don’t find too much to get excited about with this particular fight.

It’s a credit to their consistent commitment to insanity that we can look at this and say, “Meh.”

Anyway, this is from the Copa Lib match between Peru’s Universitario and Argentina’s Lanus on Thursday. The match finished in a 0-0 draw, ending Lanus’ chance of advancing to the knockout stages of the cup competition.

If you skip ahead to about the seven minute mark you can see where the fun begins. From Reuters: “The incident was sparked in the final seconds when Lanus teenager Leandro Diaz kicked Universitario goalkeeper Raul Fernandez when he was on the ground after a making save, believing he was time-wasting.”

There’s also a bit of fan-player interaction, but really tear gassing seems to be a minimum now in order to get us really excited.

    Handbags merely.

How is this penalty legal? How do they not get booked for putting the hats on?

Is it wrong that I love that you can see a broadcaster furiously talking from the middle of that fracas?

    Crowd control is different there…
