It’s…. Your Saturday Bootroom!

If I were assembling a supergroup, Damon Albarn, Bobby Womack, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon and the disembodied voice of Mos Def sure would be a good place to start.

Oh right, football… and now for the rest of today’s matches. A lot of bottom and mid-table action this morning. And then the return of Adebayor to the Emirates on for the afternoon. I’m guessing there won’t be any more face-stomping this time around. Barca and Real Madrid are in action this afternoon, along with a smattering of other games on the continent and in MLS. Fixture list and your comments after the hop!

@wac – disagree there. Hands all over his shirt.

  2. mountain wag

what the hell was that richards?

  3. Highbury Library

Sure Eboue embellished but I thought it was a clear foul.

  4. mountain wag

see? we are scared to shoot outside the box. WTF?

  5. hockalees

Neither team particularly looks like they want to win it today.

  6. mountain wag

Citeh is so packed in there’s no use dribbling through them all to get to the net. At least there’s some space for the ball to pass through when they’re outside the 18.

  7. Trot Nixon's Hat

Why do they continue to try and pass the ball into the net? A 12 yard shot isn’t the end of the world.

  8. mountain wag

Great D from clichy, coming back.

  9. mountain wag

when did bentner start hesitating before shooting? ridiculous.

  10. Highbury Library

    8 minutes? Damn.

  11. mountain wag

is there no one to stay on the net? Draw back bentner. jesus. you don’t have the angle to shoot from there.

  12. ebullientfatalist

Shit, the way this game is going, Mike Dean should just call it and send the teams home to think about what they haven’t done today.

  13. Dowie on Jozy’s red: “Jozy reacted stupidly. I’m not going to defend my player. He’ll be disciplined because of it. It’s not acceptable. In a big, big game, he’s let his team-mates down.”

  14. mountain wag

    @eb – true dat.

    RVP – c’mon!??!

  15. Ryan

I hate this game so much right now.

  16. Ryan

@TSE I think Dowie’s obligated to say that. They have 3 games left, the suspension is 3 games for that type of RC. Then the loan is over and Jozy is a Villareal player. What else punishment can he give? Fine him a few weeks wages?

  17. mountain wag

song has an open path with goal ahead. passes outside, and then on the cross back in the ball is lost. Can we safely say that’s happened a few dozen times today (although not all by song). bah!

  18. ebullientfatalist

    You silly Danish c**t.

  19. @Ryan: Agreed. Just interesting is all.

The Citeh keeper looks like a member of Pavement.

  20. ebullientfatalist

Did Wenger ever make a third sub?

  21. mountain wag

Point from e-town hooligan next to me – “sure, we may be missing Fabrega’s leadership on the field..but everyone forgets the loss of Arshavin. He’s the class of finisher we have outside the box.” – thought it should be noted.

  22. Ryan

Honestly, I think the most interesting (i.e. terrifying) thing about the Jozy incident today is that it gives Bradley an out to not start him on the grounds that he’s too emotional or something. And then… Oh my, is that Brian Ching’s music?

  23. @Ryan: I’m actually hopeful. Heading into 2006, everything looked pretty good and we were s**t. This year, things are a bit of a mess. Perfect for overachieving Yanks.

    *quietly prays*

  24. ebullientfatalist

Yeah, MW, I refuse to blame our recent play on injuries, but the loss of both Fabregas and Arshavin denies the squad of creativity, flair, and nose for goal. Those are the three qualities we’ve lacked since late-March.

  25. mountain wag

    dammit eboue. take a shot…

  26. nobody on this team wants to shoot the damn ball

  27. hockalees

    What.a.waste.of.time.

  28. wacman1389

Lame…..City wanted a draw, and got one…..I wish Ade broke something……this sucked

  29. ebullientfatalist

Ending the game is the best thing Mike Dean has done today.

  30. Boy, am I glad I came back and took an hour off from errands to watch that s**t.

    /leaving again

  31. Ryan

@TSE Yeah, as I said earlier, I fully expect us to make it out of the groups. If not, heads must roll, all the way up to Gulati and a full cleaning of the offices in Chicago.

  32. mountain wag

Their problem is that they have no drive anymore. A little concern for their physical well being could be helpful. Wear your kits through yiddsville, or ride on the Togalese national bus around africa. Show them that life is great and if they want to continue to live it, they need to “WANT” to play.

  33. mountain wag

Bah with the whole thing. They know they’re not winning the Prem, so we’re just throwing the rest of the season away. Classy. I’m off to a youth soccer pancake fundraiser. Maybe that’s what arsenal need…pancakes? bah again.

  34. Ryan

Well, instead of going for the win against a depleted Arsenal, and having a little cushion against Villa or Spurs, we now have 3 absolute must wins in all a row to end the season. Fantastic.

For what it’s worth, Shay was having shoulder problems in training on Friday, so whatever he did today, I sure hope he didn’t severely screw something up.

  35. Anonymous

Anyone else stickin around for some sweet Serie A action?

  36. Orr

    ^ me, of course

  37. I’m watching Milan v Palermo, but I may fall asleep

  38. Orr

It’s been a long day, I’ll forgive you

  39. not a good start for your lot

  40. Orr

    Ugh, disgusting defending

  41. Anonsters

The D.C. Metro Authority thinks it’s a good idea to schedule track maintenance on SATURDAY MORNING AND AFTERNOON. F**king asshats.

/3 hours on the Metro this morning

  42. Anonsters

Pinkshirt McGayshorts chuckling at his spectacular failure. Nice.

  43. Orr

I have similar gripes with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority

  44. well, this is unexpected

  45. Orr

We may want to think about waking up now ragazzi

  46. Anonsters

I went downstairs to make a turkey sandwich in order to assuage my Metro-experience pain, and I miss a goal.

    It’s that kind of day.

  47. Anonsters

    Quite a strike by Pirlo.

  48. Orr

And a good stop, this is a little more like it

  49. Anonsters

@Orr: You’re having to rely on Huntelaar up top? Eek.

  50. Orr

I know Anon, he’s Berbatovesque in terms of effort, or at least it seems that way to me

  51. Meelan are getting run off the pitch here.

  52. Anonsters

Is that Phil Collins chomping on gum down on the touchline?

  53. Anonsters

Milan’s attack is comically inept at the moment.

  54. Anonsters

Meanwhile, in Spain, Kaka saves Real’s bacon.

  55. Orr

You had to mention him Anon?

  56. Anonsters

Hm. Just switched back to Palermo-Milan, and it says 0-0.

  57. Orr

    It is Italy remember

  58. Ryan

Here’s video of the Jozy incident from this morning.
    http://soccerblogvideo.blogspot.com/2010/04/hull-city-0-1-sunderland-bent-scored.html

My first take on viewing is that it’s being a little overblown. I’m biased though.

  59. Orr

    Yeah!! Seedorf from ‘dinho, 2-1

  60. Ryan

    Camon you Red Bulls!

  61. Ryan

Wow, it’s empty in New York. Wonder what’s going on?

  62. Anonsters

@Ryan: The Red Bulls are playing. :D

  63. Anonsters

    Nice. Goal. By Miccoli.

  64. Orr

Miccoli with a great finish, Palermo back up 2. Damn, ending the season like this, we may be watching the end of Leonardo

  65. Ryan

@Anon True. But there really are no excuses, local opponent, great weather, and the stadium’s half empty.

@Orr If he does go, I know of the perfect Italian to replace him.

  66. Orr

You’re that down on Mancini Ryan?

  67. Orr

Great keeping from Dida, not everyday you hear that

  68. umm, anyone else hear a dog barking in the Meelan match?

  69. Orr

They’re in Sicily, there’s probably a pack of strays living in the stadium

  70. Anonsters

I thought it was Gattuso. His nickname is “snarling dog.”

  71. Orr

Another disappointing result. I’ll be glad when this season is over.

  72. Anonsters

I still think Palermo’s manager looks like Phil Collins.

I can feel it, coming in the air tonight, oh Lord, and I’ve been waitin’ for this moment, for all my life, oh Lord…

  73. Orr

    Until tomorrow gents

  74. jjf3

    Dear Big Fat Stupid Sam:
There’s a lesson to be learned from today’s game – see if you can follow along and figure it out:

Go to Wolves, who’ve been pretty tough at home this year, and you decide to tease me by coming out in an actual 4-4-2. What happens? We look as good as we’ve looked on the road all f**king year, and we “win” the first half 1-0.

So, what do you do in the 2nd half? You go to a 4-5-1 (and don’t f**king claim Dunn was a “support” striker – he was a freaking MF), and what happens? What’s happened to us every other game on the road this year? We LOSE the 2nd half 1-0, because we constantly try to hoof it forward to a lone striker, which means we keep no f**king possession.

Try to learn something new, you mindless ultra-conservative t**t…
