I’m glad Joep Smeets is keeping an eye on the Danes for us….
The Danes released their final squad list yesterday and really, the only notable news is that young Christian Eriksen of Ajax was included despite having played a grand total of two games for the senior side and, impressively, despite standing just about three feet tall.
The only other stir is that Olsen had to chose between one slightly mediocre Eredivisie midfielder and another slightly less mediocre Eredivisie midfielder, and of course he opted for the latter. Thomas Enevoldsen of FC Groningen is going, while Michael Silberbauer of FC Utrecht is not.
Included in the 23 man squad is Simon Kjaer. Also included: Kjaer’s damaged knee ligaments. Oof.
The Palermo stopper was stretchered off in yesterday’s friendly against Senegal, which Denmark did win. After tests, though, it was revealed Kjaer’s injury will not sideline him for the entire World Cup, just for the opener against the Netherlands.
With Kjaer included, the final Danish squad looks as follows:
Thomas Sørensen (Stoke City), Stephan Andersen (Brøndby), Jesper Christiansen (FC Kopenhagen).
William Kvist Jørgensen (FC Kopenhagen), Lars Jacobsen (Blackburn Rovers), Simon Kjær (Palermo), Per Krøldrup (Fiorentina), Daniel Agger (Liverpool), Patrick Mtiliga (Málaga), Simon Poulsen (AZ).
Martin Jorgensen (AGF Aarhus), Christian Poulsen (Juventus), Daniel Jensen (Werder Bremen), Jakob Poulsen (AGF Aarhus), Dennis Rommedahl (Ajax), Jesper Grønkjær (FC Kopenhagen), Thomas Kahlenberg (VfL Wolfsburg), Thomas Enevoldsen (FC Groningen), Christian Eriksen (Ajax), Mikkel Beckmann (Randers).
Jon Dahl Tomasson (Feyenoord), Søren Larsen (MSV Duisburg) and Nicklas Bendtner (Arsenal).
