World Famous Cheat Fails at Irony

The asshat font of endless entertainment Diego Maradona has decide to reside in a world free of history.

Dios Mio

“Let there really be fair play, let the referees understand what the words fair play mean… Let’s not abandon the little boys,” said Maradona.

We’re not entirely sure what the last bit of that quote means. Although we’d guess that Maradona is Catholic (as much as a human coke vacuum can claim to be any religion). More likely he’s referring to the little boys that carry the fair play banner on to the pitch before every match. Still, in light of that quote we are suddenly way more interested in the sub-plots of the Argentina v. Greece match.

Anyway, Maradona calling for fair play is a little like Irish calling for temperance. The diminutive Argie is the perp behind the most famous cheat of all time for his “Mano de Dios” (Hand of God) goal against England in the 1986 World Cup.

However, as England is still our enemy for the next 24 hours, we’ll take this occasion to laugh at the English more than at Diego. Conveniently the Brits seem to focus more on the bogus goal than on this.

Still Maradona is really making life easy for bloggers and the like. We need the Argies to stay around if only so we can find out what he does and says next.
