MLS Bootroom: Seattle v. Philadelphia

Yank soccer — It's fan-tastic

You want a cure for how bad you feel about the US/England/Mexico loss this weekend? It’s the return of MLS!

This might actually be fun for Norfolk Ned (except RBNY aren’t playing) since I think the World Cup is now dead to him.

This also, unfortunately, highlight the lack of talent in MLS. Let’s watch all of the second- and third-tier players who aren’t in the World Cup play in a regular season match.

Anyway, screw it. If you’re so inclined, have fun. But if I find that this bootroom gets more comments than my liveblogs, I’m revoking all of your commenting privileges. (I can’t really do that.)

  1. One comment. Yep.

  2. Oh yeah… the game is on ESPN2.

Might be worth noting that this is the opening of PPL Park. Match is sold out (as are the rest of the matches at the park (I believe) this season).

  4. Totally forgot it was the opening today. Well, this is Bootroom FAIL for me.

  5. Ryan

Best part of PPL Park? Vuvuzelas absolutely banned.

  6. James T

I shall be taking in a game or two at PPL in due course..

  7. @Ryan: Somehow I didn’t even notice the lack of vuvuzelas. This World Cup is ruining me.

the FC part of the sounders name absolutely drives me nuts, is there any surer sign that your a bush league than copying other leagues. Although it’s still not as bad as the SLC abortion of a name.

Penno for Philly! Get in Union!

PPL Park is really great, i hope The Revs/Quakes are watching this.

Ok Danny Mwanga just scored an did the dance that Gyan did after he scored against Australia. And after the US game. I got super heated for a few seconds.

    Go Union wooooooo

flyinmonky: Throughout Africa and South America you’ll see clubs that have straight taken the name of European clubs (Arsenal, Livepool, Chelsea come to mind), so Real Salt Lake is no worse than what the rest of the world sometimes does. FC is far less egregious as all it means is “football club.” Personally I find FC Dallas a much better name than the Dallas Burn.

A 13-comment Bootroom. Is that the lowest number ever?

  15. Tno

Well fourteen with yours. Oh s**t well 15 with mine.

I think I once did an impromptu liveblog of an MLS game (or maybe a CONCACAF CL match) that got about 6 comments.

  17. James T

No offense to MLS, but I think we’re all a little worn-out/drunk after ENG/GER and ARG/MEX

  18. Tno

At was actually a good game

I think I remember that one, PR. And, yes, I’m worn out from nothing more than footy and alcohol…on what would have been an otherwise normal weekend.

  20. First ever liveblog I did netted 13 comments. That was awesome. Every single one of them from a UF contributor to boot.

Man, re-watching the Germany-Ingerland match. Germany played some sweet football in that game. Also, Joe Cole was an empty kit when he was brought on.

Was at this game yesterday, the stadium was gorgeous! The stands are right on top of the pitch. The SOBs were in constant motion, singing, chanting, and booing Freddie Ljungberg at every touch. Chris Seitz’s PK save was directly in front of me, and the place went as crazy for that save as they did for any of the Union goals.
If you are traveling to the Union match, I recommend parking at Lot G (Highland Ave). You are a bit away from the stadium and will need to take a shuttle bus, but the lot is right next to I95, very easy off and on.
