It’s a very sad day for Norwich City fans today as we all learned of the death of Roy Waller.
Roy was the voice of Norwich City Football Club for 27 years and brought games to life over the radio for those not able to make it to matches and especially for exiled supporters around the world, whose only access to what was happening on the pitch at Carrow Road was via Roy’s cheery and witty commentary; never afraid to say what he thought or criticize players, Roy was a huge Norwich fan and it was evident as he called games.
In 2008 he was honored, becoming the Sheriff of Norwich, worthy recognition for a ‘born n bred’ Norfolk man, who fell into radio after starting his career as an estate agent.
But it wasn’t just the football that Roy will be remembered for, he presented several shows on BBC Radio Norfolk, including his daily show. He even convinced his bosses to let him host a weekly program featuring country music, called Rodeo Norfolk.
Roy Waller will be dearly missed by an entire county and those exiled from it.
Rest In Peace, Roy.
