Jong Tae-Se To The Bundesliga?

Pfft… he's only crying because he was born in Japan

Well, Bundesliga II. But it still counts, right?

Reports are circulating that Jong Tae-Se, aka “The People’s Rooney”, is set to undergo a medical at second-tier German club VfL Bochum. The article makes no mention of a transfer, leaving us to make that leap of logic, else why would they examine him?

Regardless of what Bochum is planning, I can’t see why they’d be interested. Tae-Se came into this World Cup followed by an endless drag of media hype, presumably because he’s the most recognizable player on the North Korean team.

Ergo, lots of columnists phoned in their Chollima coverage and based it around a striker who can score goals occasionally but is not possessed by some god-like scoring ability. I’ll admit that I drank some of that nuke-tainted Kool Aid in expecting him to shock and surprise in Group G, but, truth be told, he did about as much as the man he shares a nickname with.

Best of luck to him, and to Bochum, who appear to be amassing guys who underwhelmed at the World Cup to join fellow “meh” personnel like Stanislav Sestak, Antar Yahia, and Zlatko Dedic.

What, they couldn’t afford a South Korean player?

Well, he’s at least more Rooney than Kuyt, if this world cup is any barometer.

    They’re bringing back the vivisection?
