Adrian Holland, a 22-year-old Brit who was once in the Red Bulls system (I found him in former training listings but not on a roster), was arrested on suspicion of sending improper texts to a girl age 15 or younger in Florida.
Well, it turns out that the allegations now include a two-year relationship between Holland and a girl between the ages of 12 and 16. From the story:
Their actions started as kissing, and then in June 2009, the girl and Holland started having sex, the warrant said.
The girl told deputies she and Holland both knew their relationship was illegal, so they kept it quiet. But she became upset when she heard he’d been texting another girl, so she decided to tell her father, the warrant said.
Stories like this make my skin crawl. My sister played club soccer for years and had young coaches like this. I knew them well. If I found out something like this happened… well, ick. (I also have a 7-year-old daughter, so even more ick.)
I’m not convicting this guy. He might be innocent. It might be a misunderstanding. That said, I ask this hypothetical:
Guys from Europe do know that it’s not the 1300s anymore, right? Black Death isn’t going to kill all the girls before they turn 18. You can wait a while.

What’s not clear to me is whether he was arrested solely on the texting bit and then they found out after his arrest about the other stuff, or whether he was arrested because they had found out about the other stuff. Because I’d have a problem with arresting someone for something they sent in a text message, I don’t care how young the other person is. There are other remedies available. None of this is, of course, to condone anything he did. And if he was arrested on information concerning the statutory rape part, I’m down with that.

Seriously! So friends and family have to do with people making a joke outta this situation to? Is it not enough of a shock and heart break to find out someone we care about could of done such a thing? Back down and your sources are very very weak! You found him on a roster? Yeah, I’m not being rude or anything but I think it’s wicked that you people are just basing things on how somebody looks. Just because he’s got a MOUSTACHE that reinforces your preconceptions of what looks like a pervert or not?! Seriously wrong…. I actually went to school with Adrian, and until recently still kept in touch, and he was lovely and sweet and nothing like the image that is being portrayed of him at the moment. I’m not for one second saying he didn’t do it, and if it’s true then I feel sorry for the girl and her family involved, but your harsh comments forced me to say something because quite frankly, you’re behaving really unfairly and unjustly. Whatever happened to democracy?
I also went to school with adie! And did too keep in touch from time to time. The parents of this girl knew what was going on so what did they do about this sad situation! F all! Others are guilty in this.. And in my opinion if he is paying for this crime so should they!

So the girl isn’t the one to blame at all, right? She perfectly knew what she was getting in. She played her cards and then pretty much claimed to be a victim
