Cristiano Ronaldo is laying claim to the famed number 7 shirt for Real Madrid. If you recall, that’s the number previously worn by club legend Raul, who signed with Schalke less than 48 hours ago.
Ronaldo hasn’t even let the kit man wash the jersey yet!
However, it does make sense for the gelled-one. He wore that number at Manchester United. He has two boutiques, one in Madeira and one in Madrid, named CR7. It just does not make much sense in general for the club to lay it out so soon after their lifer leaves the building.
tj – not sure if I’m the only one, but UF on IE has been acting very strange the past couple of days. The “recent comments” has things from almost a year ago, and refreshing the site only sometimes updates the content (other times it hides posts previously there). All this after working perfectly for a couple days earlier this week (i.e. no f5′s to see new comments).
If it’s helpful I’m on IE8, XP 5.1.
I’m on google chrome and every thing seems fine here. But for about a month any time i visited the site, i’d have to refresh the main page just to see the new articles/posts. now it seems to be working fine though.
wordpress just updated to 3.0.1, so that might have something to do with you loss of fluidity.

I think we’re still on WP 2.9.2… But our cache plugin updated. That might have both fixed Chrome issues and created IE issues.
I do all of the site admin in FF because of Firebug and generally ignore IE and hope it goes away.
That sounds like a weak excuse, but I’m a Mac user and they don’t even support IE, so as one of two folks here taking care of the back-end stuff, I make do with what I’ve got.
If you want to send some screengrabs to the UF tipline, I’ll check them out.

I know Raul is gone from the team but I wonder if they do the same thing in football that they do in American football, that if someone is currently wearing the number that you want, that you can buy it off it them.
That being said, I agree with TFA that while it makes sense that C-Ron gets the number, it does suck that Raul JUST left the team.
@ Goosie: Don’t know if it works like that re: numbers; for some numbers, say No. 10, the player has to have earned that number, so I don’t think a new signing could just come to the club and see about buying that off the current 10 on the squad.

@ Goosie: looked it up–Ronaldo wore 7 @ Sporting, then was able to take the number and United b/c Beckham moved on to Real @ the same time; guess otherwise, if Goldenballs had not had a shoe thrown @ him by Fergie, CR7 would have had have been CR?
Will be fascinating to see if the club show some stones in standing up to CRon, instead of just letting the inmates continue to run the asylum.
Rooney had to wait a year after Ruud left before he got to wear 10. I’m kind of surprised something like that wasn’t enforced here, but I probably shouldn’t be.
