We may need a new tag around here if things keep up this way with Italian clubs.
On the heels of the Cagliari v. Bastia match being suspended due to fights on the pitch, Italian club Catania and Greek side Iraklis decided to get in on the action. With the Italians leading 1-0 the referee decided to put an end to the match in the 70th minute after numerous bad fouls and confrontations between players.
I scoured the interwebz for video of the fracas, but at first all I could find was this:
I’m not sure what the problem is here – there is no one in the stands to incite to violence, and those gents are at least singing somewhat on-key to alleviate their boredom at the lack of action on the pitch.
But then I found video of the violence that Catania and Iraklis had tried to hide:
Shocking stuff. There is just no place for that sort of thing in football, particularly during a preseason friendly.
