Rafa is a Red Bull

Grant Wahl has just tweeted that Rafa Marquez has joined Red Bull New York on a 5-year, $25 million contract. The 31 year-old was released from Barcelona mere hours ago, and now joins Titi and Juan Pablo Angel as the RBNY DPs.

    It is so damn easy to hate the Red Bulls now. The handballer and the handjob on the same squad. Well done, Red Bulls. You are the 90’s-era Detroit Pistons of the MLS.

  • njndirish says:

    The Pistons helped spark what some say is one of the best decades in basketball history, so let’s see where this leads

    @dirish
    Very true

  • spectator says:

    As a fan of the 90s Pistons, I love this move.

    In truth, Marquez has always been my most despised player, but hey, kind of glad he’s with the Red Bulls. Even though I’ll have to listen to months of Ned whinging that he should be playing centerback rather than defensive mid.

  • Anonsters says:

    $5 mil./yr. for 5 years for a 31 y/o defender? Brilliant piece of biz.

  • Billy Bob Huynh says:

    The 25mil is nice and all and compensates for not playing in the real leagues but Marquez will be an agents dream in NY in terms of promotion.
    Marquez is now the number 1 pitchman for the mexican-american market in the US. THe opportunities are there.

  • Pete says:

    This is excellent news.
