I know, it’s starting to get a bit grating, but Landon deserves credit for doing this smartly.
In no interview has Donovan said anything directly about the quotes from MLS head Don Garber that the league needs to keep Landon.
Instead, Donovan has used subtlety to introduce the subject and expand on it ever so slightly each time he speaks. Meanwhile the media are eating it up. Let’s look at the latest development.

Now, he off-handedly mentions that he’d love to go back to Everton.

Really, he didn’t say a darn thing. And yet, the story seems to be picking up momentum without him ever rebuking Garber or MLS.
