Saturday Bootroom: It’s Finally Here!

Yeah, that excited.

Listen up kids, the EPL (suck it, Barclay’s!) kicks off this morning and for most of us this represents a spiritual reawakening after the dark times of no football.

How excited are you about the opening of the season? Did you wake up for the early match with more anticipation than you used to have as a kid on Christmas morning (or the first day of Chanukah)?

Are you sitting at your local right now, beer in hand (put that down! Blue laws in your state forbid serving alcohol this early, you heathen), waiting for that first whistle?

If you’re not, I’m not quite sure what you’re doing here this early. Go back to bed.

Everton’s away jersey’s actually don’t look half bad in actual games

  2. Ryan

I think Yaya is creative enough for the City midfield. He played two inch perfect balls today, unfortunately SWP was on the receiving end of both of them.

  3. Orr

Oh Robert Green, what a rough season it will be

  4. I’m really glad Rob Green is my starting keeper today for my fantasy team. I clearly don’t understand how this game works.

  5. robot_agenda

hmmm, no dempsey or schwarzer for fulham

    interesting to say the least

  6. that was almost the perfect loltastic opening goal

  7. I like how the Spurs game has finished and rational thought has returned to the comments.

  8. ah, Robert Green with his hand in the air helplessly.

  9. Downing appeared to be offside.

  10. Orr

    “Not great keeping”. Understatement.

  11. Brian

wow Howard wins LOLtastic goal of the day

  12. Albrighton looks really good so far.

  13. Brian

    goalkeeping I should say

  14. I don’t know why these broadcasters keep asking why Green didn’t catch that ball. Did they not watch England in the World Cup? Or have they blocked that from their memories?

  15. So, Blackpool with a lead? Awesome. So glad I started Kirkland on my fantasy team. Fail.

  16. @TFA: Don’t feel bad. I started Green.

  17. phil

    I started Howard. I guess we’re all f**ked.

  18. fack! I started Kirkland too.

  19. Ellis Carver

Bolton’s gotten themselves a pretty sweet midfield.

  20. Ellis Carver

BTW, about the Wigan-Blackpool affair, Gary Taylor-Fletcher strikes me as a guy who needs a nickname.

  21. phil

Bent converts a PK for Sunderland. Miraculously, he manages to strike with his foot and not his shin.

  22. robot_agenda

stockdale almost with a gimmee to bolton, ugh if we sell schwarzer long season ahead

  23. Outside Mid

Bent just scored a penno for Sunderland, 1-0 over B’ham

  24. Darren Bent with a Sunderland PK

  25. ooooooooooh, so close to a “Darren Bent PK” Yahtzee!

  26. Outside Mid

@ robot: Well, you might have a go after Given now if Schwartz moves

  27. Outside Mid

And, I think I left Bent on my fantasy bench b/c I thought he was injured/sigh

  28. phil

Fellaini’s ‘fro and that pink shirt are a match made in Sly and the Family Stone heaven.

  29. robot_agenda

    @outside

are we the new place for citeh rejects?!

not that that would be bad

  30. Outside Mid

Kieran Richardson has brought back the “rat tail” hairstyle/No, he hasn’t, it’s horrid.

  31. Shane

Well thank god for Setanta and my wonderful internet connection. Plus whoever the blokes are in Iraq that have an unhealthy obsession with the SPL. C’mon……. James Beattie!?!?!

  32. Orr

I like Roberto Martinez during the WC so I kind of want Wigan to do alright, not a ringing endorsement but more than not giving a s**t like before. Still cool to see Blackpool with a lead.

  33. did he just say that was a “stupid header from Carew”?

  34. so is Marc Albrighton an actual midget or just look like one next Carew?

  35. Brian

on evertonfc.com Howard has the most votes for man of the match

  36. Outside Mid

@ Orr: I kind of hope Martinez is able to step into another club that’s somewhat interesting to watch if/when the early managerial firings happen. I like him, can’t really watch Wigan.

  37. Shane

So are there any non-EPL fans trolling around here? I get a little lonely in my world.

  38. Shane

Walter has Naismith, Lafferty, Beattie, and Miller in the same lineup. Anyone still wanna say we simply try to hold teams?

  39. Outside Mid

@ Shane: I’m not on any SPL matches, what could you get online? I’ve got to check on my newly adopted club St Johnstone.

  40. well, then. And Marlon Harewood scores to put Blackpool up 2 as well

  41. Outside Mid

@ robot: I think several of us will be Citeh rejects soon

  42. Shane

@OM: I don’t see the Saints listed anywhere anytime soon. First match I have on my radar is the 28th vs. My Boys in Blue.

I’ve got a good Gers/Killie stream right now if you want it.

  43. Orr

@OM: Yeah that would be ideal

  44. Orr

@ Shane – I am one of few Serie A fans/defenders/apologists around these parts

  45. Holy Shit On A Stick! Blackpool up 3-0.

  46. Ryan

2-0 Blackpool. Didn’t see that coming.

  47. Ellis Carver

Lee Cattermole, congratulations!! You’re the first player sent off for the new season!

  48. and Marlon Harewood with the first brace of the season

  49. jjf3

Pretty pumped that I picked a) Blackpool to beat Wigan and b) Wigan to get relegated.

  50. Shane

Gers 1-nil Killie @ the half. Kilmarnock have had a load of chances, one of which I think was over the line but tough s**t.

  51. Ryan

Blackpool top of the league. Makes sense.

  52. I picked Wigan to go down, too. And I’m sure everyone else picked Blackpoo and clearly we were all mistaken.

  53. ^That’s actually a typo–I didn’t mean to call them Blackpoo. That’s reserved for Liverpoo.

  54. @Goat: i love kneejerk reactions after the first half of the first game.

  55. @TFA: I think we actually can surmise that West Ham are s**t.

  56. Outside Mid

@ LE: Blackpool, Europa League spot, easy.

  57. Marlon Harewood for golden boot.

  58. Outside Mid

@ Shane: internet feed for SPL? I’ll see if I can crash my computer reeaall good today.

  59. Ryan

I was looking up odds on William Hill yesterday, and I think they were paying 16-1 on Blackpool topping the table at any point during the season.

  60. robot_agenda

    @om

yes…i think they didn’t expect the interest

  61. Shane

@OM: Not a problem. Being an SPL fan requires a fair amount of diligence in your stream digging.

  62. Shane

NAISMITH with a beauty. Good finish from the Pale One

  63. Shane

    Oh for f**k’s sake

  64. Shane

Yeah, please don’t show a replay of the f**king incident, just Hamil’s half-ass penalty

  65. Shane

Lineman five yard away doesn’t flag; ref 50 yards away finds his whistle

  66. Shane

David Weir makes those tackles look so easy

  67. robot_agenda

    gera off
    dempsey on

  68. robot_agenda

dempsey has brought some life to the offense for fulham…why was he on the bench sparky?
