Sunday Bootroom: Reds and Gooners

Arsenal like playing Liverpool

Anfield, home of Woy. Will Hodgson inspire Liverpool to only their 4th win over Arsenal in 19 attempts?

Head to head, Liverpool have the edge with 68 wins to Arsenal’s 60, but in recent times, it’s been the Laaaaandoners who have bossed this one and the Gooners have won 8 of their last 9 opening games.

Wenger may hand a start to ‘Jesus With A Football’ but will definitely be without Bendtner, who has a groin injury. Robin van Persie and Cesc Fabregas will be given late fitness tests. Arsenal will likely offer a start to new front-man, Marouane Chamakh also.

For Liverpool, Woy will roll out new boys Joe Cole and Christian Poulsen. Fernando Torres will start this one on the bench after recovering from the injury he picked up in South Africa.

Enjoy the match blog-fiends, it should be a cracker!

Dear Scousers and Gooners: Quit bitching about the reffing. He’s not the reason this game is the way it is right now. Your teams are.

  2. Georger

    Hahahahaha.

  3. Haha. Arsenal and Liverpool made really good signings this summer.

  4. cjdomer04

Pupsters: so, the red had nothing to do with the outcome?

  5. Wacman

That’s a hilarious red…..I’m sure he meant to do that

  6. Anonsters

    Poetic justice?

  7. Orr

Damnit. Not a bad point, but it feels like a loss.

  8. f**king s**t. that should have been a red victory. motherf**king gutpunch.

  9. Anonsters

Also, commentator fail: “It certainly wasn’t a ball-to-hand-job.”

  10. @cj: Totally. Pepe dropped the ball into his own net because he was so irate over the Joe Cole red. Only explanation.

  11. I’m not sure what happened here, but I suppose all things considered I’ll take 1 point at Anfield

  12. And Chelsea already have two points on two of their rivals!

  13. Georger

@CJ: Arsenal probably would have won if we had eleven men.
    -
Always thrilled with points after going a man down in the first half, but still, should have gotten all three. Atkinson had a terrible game going both ways.

  14. Anonsters

And let me be the first to point out, now that week one is done. Arsenal is s**t.

  15. So far Spurs have already spent more time on top of the table than Pool and Arsenal. On this evidence, I see no reason for that to change.

  16. Wacman

@Josh, You consider Liverpool to be a rival? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  17. Georger

Frankly I’m impressed he got sent off what with playing from a stretcher, nobody comes back from that.

  18. Wacman

    @Georger I stand corrected lol

  19. @Wacman: Only historically. I’m still mad about how they kept beating Chelsea in the Champions League. I don’t think they’l challenge Chelsea this season.

  20. teeknuts

    F**king f**kedy f**k. That hurt.

  21. cjdomer04

At the half, I would have taken the point. It just really sucks to have the match end like that.

  22. Anonsters

@Georger: Also, congrats on being the cellar dweller for week 1 so far. :P

  23. MrCarbohydrate

Yeah it did. Arse-nal should have taken down Liverpoo :/

  24. Georger

In fantasy? Oh it will be a season long thing. I am atrocious at fantasy soccer. Figured that’s why I’d get Giggs and Cahill this year, maybe I can ruin them.

  25. MrCarbohydrate

Wait, he’s a West Brom supporter?

  26. Anonsters

@Georger: I only mentioned because I’m down there with you. With our powers combined, we can wreak havoc on the history of suck at fantasy soccer.

  27. @Carbs: I don’t think anyone outside of West Bromwich is a West Bromwich supporter.

  28. MrCarbohydrate

Oh, I just went with the theory that someone has to support them. And don’t ruin Cahill, we need all the help we can get :/

  29. Georger

Arsenal need Arjen on 606: “Arsenal will walk away from this match feeling better about the result. Never gave up. Well done to the Gunners.”
    -
Man the BBC has some stupid stupid readers.

  30. Georger

Me included. Beat you to it.

  31. Note to all. I’ll be liveblogging the United-United match tomorrow. Be there, aloha.

  32. jjf3

Paging NYK. NYK to the white courtesy phone. NYK – white courtesy phone…

any idea who this guy is? Colombian striker Edixon Perea Valencia

Blackburn is trialling him, he supposedly spent time at Bordeaux (before I paid attn to them), and is now out of contract with Gremio…

  33. Outside Mid

@Ryan: Well, wouldn’t mind a Richards deal working out but don’t mind The Scarf not wanting to do deals for Bellamy or Lescott. Bellamy could be a good fit for Sparky & Fulham, whereas, Lescott’s a bit pants. Think it might be more a message ‘Arry’s trying to send to Daniel Levy to open up the wallet than against Citeh…

  34. @jjf3 – he never got much run at Bordeaux, since he was always behind Chamakh, or Obertan, or Cavenaghi, or Darcheville (!) but in general he seemed rubbish.

  35. jjf3

@NYK: Thanks! Figured if he was 26 and let go by Gremio, he probably wasn’t worth the effort.

  36. Georger

This burgeoning City/Spurs rivalry is going to be all kinds of insufferable, isn’t it?

  37. Ryan

I don’t mind Spurs, or puppies. I detest Redknapp though.

  38. Tno

If Richards went to Spurs my back three in fantasy would be all Tottingham Hotspurs. (Curluka not Bale)

  39. phil

    @Georger: Only on Thursdays.

  40. Anonsters

I’m just appalled at the ungentlemanly conduct of this Italian fellow in refusing to sell a striker with substantial quality to the club who will inevitably be among their most determined rivals this season. Tut-tut, old boy. What is this world coming to?
