England’s Channel 5 Gets a New Soccer Host

It might not be much news or revelation to announce that Channel 5 have hired veteran soccer/Formula 1 presenter Jim Rosenthal to front their Europa League coverage, but to me, it is. You see, I still recall his little gaffe back in 2008 that led him to slink out of the broadcasting spotlight a little in the months that followed.

Ol’ Rosenthal, 62, let this gem slip about Tessa Sanderson, a famous English athlete who won gold at the 1984 Olympics with the javelin:

Always nice to see the old talking heads get recycled around, isn’t it? I’m not saying that Rosenthal’s racist; if anything, he’s just a bit dim when it comes to extemporaneous segues during live broadcasts, though he’s been doing them since well before I was born.

@ JT: I assume you will be reporting him immediately if he makes any snide remarks about Stevie G & Phil Collins during today’s coverage of Liverpool v Bucharest.
