UF Pic of the Day

Ned is on an extended break as real life intrudes on our efforts here, but I wanted to revive his PotD for at least one day to show this to all of you.

For love of the game.

My dad sent me a link to this picture, which captures what all of us love so much about the game. Despite all of their trials, these Haitian youngsters gathered to do something that makes them incredibly happy – play a little football. On a pitch no bigger than the ground floor of my house, these kids play in full uniforms (although sans shoes, for some) with a referee and a sizable crowd.

Port-au-Prince, and the neighborhood pictured here (Fort National) in particular, faces a huge rebuilding effort amidst crushing poverty, but the whole world still stops for a local match.

Makes me feel like a spoiled btch that I get to play on crappy grass.

  8. Amazing picture. That’s what the game is about, the love. Not complaining about the gear we wear, the grass we play on or the lack of facilities.

Haiti wouldn’t have so many problems if it hadn’t make a pact with the devil.
