A look at the second tier of Yanks Abroad [The Shin Guardian]

“A look at the second tier of Americans abroad.”- Somehow even more depressing than I thought it would be.
Caught not reading your own backpass: “The limited edition Millwall kit features the names of all of the players who have ever represented the Lions’ first team.”
Tsk, tsk.
**”Yanks Abroad”**
2nd link is the link to the first link.
Weird, I usually screw up the last link.
Here’s a picture of Houllier that I enjoyed.
@Ryan: Good news! Everyone’s getting along just fine at Citeh.
re: K.Henry: I think it was Ken Early yesterday who made the point, McCarthy didn’t give a s**t until Henry ruined a match and cost him points. Up till that point, he was just getting stuck in like a good footballer should.
@pup: I skipped the Tevez story yesterday so as not to step on toes! I was trying to be nice! Never again!
@Anonsters: I for one am shocked that there might be dissension among a football team at halftime. Shocked I say!
Here’s what Kolo Toure had to say about the half time bust up: “The right things were said at half time, the manager had the right words and we worked harder in the second half and we are really happy that we got the three points.”
–
If Tevez did have a go at Mancini, which I’m sure to some extent he did, Mancini was much more positive in the 2nd half, bringing on a striker and an attacking midfielder, so it seems to have worked itself out.
Although, I do like Caught Offside’s version of events. If only for the comedy factor.
In other news, Bobby Pires is training with Arsenal this week as he looks for a new club (ala Sol last year). No way Arsene signs him, but *sigh* anyway.
Is a 36 year old Pires really the solution to your problems? Or do you just want him as a sort of mascot?
Never a bad thing to have a former player of the year, world cup and club champion, and revered club legend around. Especially for the kids.
So yes, as a mascot.
@Ryan: That was a much more exciting version of events. Let’s hope it’s true. For the lulz.
Sooooo… are Spurs building a stadium or assuming control of the Olympic Stadium? Because this is starting to sound a little like, “Well, we want a new ground, we just don’t want to have to pay anything toward one.”
@Shane: I think that’s exactly what’s going on. Levy’s going to do whatever he can to get a new ground with as minimal cost to himself as possible. The Olympic Stadium thing, IMO, is just a smokescreen.
@Shane: We’re keeping our options open. I think there was a deadline to submit a bid for the Olympic Stadium so we had to get that in while we still could. As far as building The Naming Rights, the local council has been dragging their feet over approval. They finally gave it and now it’s up to the mayor to sign off on the building plans before we can go through with it. I think the idea is the threat to just go occupy the Olympic Stadium instead of building our expensive stadium, housing, supermarket, hotel, etc. massive construction project while encourage them to get their acts together a little quicker. Basically, it’s a bit of leverage.
while = will. oops.
Yeah, the Olympic Stadium thing is the lever by which Daniel was able to get the process moving again. It’s already worked as a pressure tactic, insofar as Haringey Council finally f**king approved it (they were dragging their feet) and kicked it upstairs to Boris. And it’d be shocking if Boris didn’t approve it. Apparently Tottenham is a s**thole and could use the development that’s part of the package.
(And surprise, surprise, within a few weeks of word getting out about Daniel’s move re Olympic Stadium, the Council withdrew their heads from their asses.)
Fair enough. Seemed like a leverage plot, and sort of a We could get this if we really want in the direction of West Ham.
@Shane: Nah, I think it’s entirely directed at Haringey Council and Boris to get a move on. The reaction around the Spurs blogozone was to cheer Daniel for playing hardball, while making an aside that it would really, really suck if Tottenham Hotspur left, you know, Tottenham.
Yeah, the general consensus is nobody wants to go to East London if we can help it. But this move has certainly expedited our trip through London’s bureaucracy. And it is fun to see the David look stupid in the media. Because that doesn’t happen enough.
the Davids*
Yeah, this had nothing to do with London Bongo and everything to do with Levy putting pressure on Haringey Council.
Well then, let the groundbreaking of The Naming Rights Stadium commence!
Most importantly, will they have a nightclub underneath Naming Rights?
@NYK: No. The nightclub is in my pants.
