Media: "We're sorry. Could you find it in your heart forgive us?"
The face that launched a thousand paparazzi, Vanessa Perroncel, is quietly getting the ‘justice’ she wanted regarding stories published earlier this year about her alleged affair with John Terry. Two different newspapers have apologized to Perroncel recently.
Although small physically, the statements have a lot of meaning (to some).
From News of the World:
On January 31 and afterwards we published some personal information about Vanessa Perroncel in articles concerning an alleged affair with the footballer John Terry. Miss Perroncel has since informed us that she would have preferred her personal information to remain private and it was untrue in any case. We apologise to Miss Perroncel for any distress caused.
From Mail on Sunday:
On January 31, we published some personal information about Vanessa Perroncel concerning an alleged affair with the footballer John Terry. We have since been informed she would have preferred this to remain private and it was untrue in any case. We apologise to Miss Perroncel for any distress caused.
As James T noted to me via email, “major tabloids apologize and admit they published untruths. Not that the public will ever care. She’ll always be known as the whore who ruined poor John Terry’s life.” Albeit the description of Terry was presumably tongue-in-cheek, his statement is a logical synopsis for the story. Journalistic integrity has gone out the window.
But is anyone really shocked that some or all of the details could be untrue? Seriously, these carefully-crafted-by-lawyers statements ‘technically’ state the stories “published some personal information” and “she would have preferred this to remain private“. Well, duh! Rooney, Crouchaldino, Ronaldo, Nani, etc. probably would have liked theirs to have been kept under wraps as well.
I think I’ve been clear on my point of view, and that there are just as many contributing factors outside of Miss Perroncel’s ‘technical’ innocence or guilt regarding the affair.
But just so you know, nobody’s perfect. And the media, like many before them, are just struggling with how to say is this:
PS: Note how the words don’t match the actions. It’s not coincidence for this metaphor, it’s fate.
PPS: Get ready to rock at 4:07, just FYI.

Yeah, but we don’t know what was untrue, so as far as I’m concerned the core of these allegations must be true because she didn’t win some amount of money. So, she is a mistress and she had an abortion paid for by John Terry since she didn’t have them retract that information.
PUPPY.
That was for you Anon…(to melt your cold, cynical heart)
“she would have preferred her personal information to remain private and it was untrue in any case.”
I like how they just slipped that last bit in. As if something could be both private and a complete fabrication at the same time.
My affair was a private matter! I mean, erm, what affair?
I may not be able to watch any of the Euro Qualifiers, because I’m going to be (1) staring at that picture the rest of the day and (2) melting into a puddle of squishy awwwww goo.
@LE: Camon, you should be comfortable with arguing in the alternative, law school graduate.
@LE- absolutely. But the way it was worded still leaves me wondering if SHE was the one who said it was untrue? Or if they openly knew that when publishing? Regardless, there’s no physical way the ENTIRE thing is untrue b/c the court would have granted Terry’s request for silencing it if either Terry or Perroncell could prove that absolutely none of it happened…like him coming to her house, alone, to offer evening “advice”, etc.).
@Anon – I get the whole puppy thing, but if that will be happening the rest of the day, you’ve got some issues…
@MW: It’s too bad there aren’t any psychoanalysts among the commenters.
@Goat – I think the ‘lawyers’ have previously taken on that role or at least act like they have. (-;
The clip makes me want to watch some Karate Kid 1 and 2, immediately. Peter Cetera! haha
@MW/Goat: I can’t hear you. I only see puppy.
I love this song.
That’s all.
(although I think I might like the version by Az Yet better…)
