Noel Gallagher Wants to Jam with Tevez

Halloween Costume Ideas?

Manchester City superfan Noel Gallagher has declared his undying love for Carlos “El Apache” Tevez. According to the former Oasis guitarist, “I like Tevez’ style. He has no desire to learn the language and thanks everyone by saying he likes the city.”

Huh?

Gallagher went on to say, “if he ever wants to break a guitar and make a little noise, I’m always available.”

Apparently, not playing in Oasis anymore gives Noel plenty of time to be available for an impromptu jam. You know, when he’s not busy getting into whiny media fights with his brother.

There’s only one problem: Gallagher is a pop rocker while Tevez generally prefers cumbia, a kind of tropical dance music popular in Argentina that I’m going to compare to reggaeton, even though they probably don’t sound at all alike.  I refuse to listen to enough samples of either style to be able to make an informed comparison. That doesn’t make me a hipster, I just don’t like to bleed from my ears.

Carlitos with La Mona

El Apache’s own brother is a member of Argentine cumbia group Piola Vago (myspace warning), with whom Carlitos has made several cameo vocal appearances.  Go ahead and listen to the track “Dejala Tevez”, if you dare.

He’s also “collaborated” with other, um, renowned singers such as Koly Arce and Carlitos “La Mona” Jiménez. La Mona is a bit of a legend in Argentina, having popularized a style of music known as cuarteto.

Gallagher better be handy with an accordion if he hopes to hang with Tevez and make some sweet tunes.

TSE is my new hero. (BTW, is there anyone in this world who doesn’t love that song?) Also, I didn’t think it’d ever be possible, but we’ve found someone (La Mona) as caveman-hideous as Tevez.

Seriously, I keep looking at that picture in awe and horror. It’s like a freakin’ train wreck of humanity.

Is “La Mona” really just “El Pibe” with a different dye job on the ‘fro? Calling for DNA testing on that one.

@Anonsters: they gave him the nickname “La Mona” (female monkey) when he was a kid because he looked like Chita, the chimp from the Tarzan tv show. For real.

  6. @BG: You get bonus points for calling the chimp Chita and not Cheetah. Well done with the pop culture.

@BG: See! La Mona & Tevez are related!
