This Should Be Uncomfortable

Tighter Shorts? Please, No.

Overlooked in the wake of revelations about the predictably slimy underbelly of World Cup voting politics is the more mundane itinerary of FIFA Overlord Sepp Blatter.

After wrapping up a presser in Zurich where he promised to rid soccer of the ”devils” Blatter hopped a short flight to Essen, Germany, for the triennial General Assembly of the German Football Federation (DFB).

The assembly will feature a smorgasboard of celebrity, with Blatter, German Chancellor Angela Merkel—who was caught up with ref-shover Mesut Ozil recently—UEFA General Secretary Gianni Infantino, and Jogi Loew among others in attendance.

Primarily this conference will consider proposals to adjusting the structure of the regional league (4th division) in Germany along with several pats on the back between DFB president Theo Zwanziger and Sepp for Germany’s upcoming hosting duties for the 2011 Women’s World Cup.

Why is this worth mentioning?

Well, it’s just interesting to note that at a fairly bland conference devoted to a restructuring of the lower leagues of German football along with clearing up any lingering issues over Women’s World Cup venues, the honored guests include a guy who thinks female footballers should wear tighter shorts because they’re pretty, a lady who thinks multi-culturalism–despite having a popular multi-cultural national team–is a failed idea and is in hot water for hanging with said multi-cultural players whilst they were in their knickers after a match, another guy who’s been sparring verbally with one of Germany’s major clubs, and a federation president who recently faced down resignation due to a lover’s quarrel betwixt some of his referees.

Yikes. Perhaps for less controversial topics of discussion when there might be lags in conference, these guys should talk about politics or something.

Again, Blatter and Co. will likely be around for a brief time during this multi-day conference, but there are so many questions the German soccer media could ask them individually if given the opportunity. Issues of sexism, multi-culturalism, ethics, legal improprieties, and the like will all be present in some form by these luminaries. If this were happening in England, it might be a journalist’s idea of an early Christmas.

  1. I can see Sepp’s slimy underbelly.

  2. Sepp’s Slimy Underbelly = Great band name.
Also, we might need to add to SASIC and create some kind of acronym for Germany. Good stuff OM.

Possibly the most sane and credible thing Fat Sepp has ever said.

What I want to know about that 4chan post, Jacob, is how he was making 15.40/hr as base pay. I’ll take that job.
