Link fail: mind games links to YY again. I know we <3 phil, but that much?

  2. PDF of Spurs’ financials here. The main difference b/w last year’s profit and this year’s small loss: 56m pounds from players sold last year and only 15m in the past year. Result: we have one of the biggest squads in the EPL.

  3. And the loss reported for the year was 6m pounds. Not exactly losing money by the bucketfuls. But yes, I can’t wait for everyone else to hit the panic button for us.

  4. Ryan

Agree it’s not a big deal, but I’m also not sure it’ll get solved by offloading the dregs while buying a striker and a center half.

  5. @Ryan: That depends on how much we sell and for how much we sell them versus how much we buy versus how much we buy them for. As I think we’re all agreed over at YY, this probably means there’ll be no Spurs buying without selling, at the very least.

<i. That depends on how much we sell and for how much we sell them versus how much we buy versus how much we buy them for
    No way! :-p
I guess I was referring more specifically to the line in the YY post about selling off Gio, and Bentley, and Keane. Honestly, are those guys worth 10m all together?

  7. Oh, I don’t think there will be an attempt to balance it all out by selling players for more than we buy players in January. I just don’t think there’s going to be a willingness to increase the size of the squad any further, which means selling in order to buy. Not because we can perfectly cover the difference in this window, though.

  8. What will be most interesting are the books in two years if Spurs don’t make champions league play again next season. The club doesn’t really have the same assets to sell off now that can offset the losses that an expanded CL roster will cause and then a possible loss of CL cash.

  9. Except that it doesn’t appear that this year’s accounts include any CL-based revenue.

  10. Exactly. That’s why you have to wait two years to see how it shakes out if spurs don’t qualify again this season. It takes a little while for it to shake out. You won’t get CL cash until the end of this season or beginning of next.

  11. I’d also note that spurs don’t seem to be run financially where a failure to qualify next season would do the club that much harm. But you never know especially with that wheeler and dealer ‘Arry.

Spurs should just sell Gareth Bale. Problem solved.

  13. It’s been a crazy week, I tell ya. In a rage following the 0-3 to Hibs I forwarded an email that drew parallels between the Pope and your typical pedophile. Since the SFA looks down at all communications that portray people in a bad light they got in tough with the local parrish, Our Mother of the Immaculate Reception or some such nonsense. I was pursued round town, beaten badly, and left (I’m assuming) for dead behind a dumpster adjacent to Kroger shopping complex. Thankfully I came to and stumbled home, but when one of the perps went back to collect and burn my body and saw that the dumpster had been moved and I was no longer behind it he immediately spread the word, something about “second coming” and all that. I tell ya, being a false prophet ain’t all it’s cracked up to be, especially when you’ve got two projects coming to deadline and these people are wanting to document every movement you make (“Ooo, look at how he used the feather tool to make a nice soft cutout for that! Amazing….“).

Anyways, at least Mark McGhee’s travelling circus is coming to town this weekend. Should get back to normal.

  14. If it doesn’t, you should fire Walter Smith.

And yet soccernet insists he’s not thinking about a move.

  16. Thanks for the link! Ryan, I think has hit something important, I think, namely that what we have to sell isn’t exactly in demand. BUT, there was also an excellent point reaised at YY in this regard. We have a fair amount of young-ish English talent. And with the new homegrown rule, squads like, oh, I don’t know, Citeh, are going to be looking to buy English roster fillers to offset the purchase of fancy new Bosnian forwards. And don’t think for one second that teams like Spurs aren’t going demand a premium for an English player from a club that needs English players.

  17. Lennon's Eyebrow

@JT: Just read the mindgames diving post. I had no idea you were secretly Jim Hendry.

  18. It’s news to us as well.

  19. Outside Mid

    Excellent! Link love to YY!

  20. @Phil: The only issue is that Citeh has a lot of home-grown players in the fold or on loan. I don’t think they have that issue to really worry about.

  21. Ryan

City also routinely have 5 or 6 players called up into the England team. Not that that’s much to brag about, but we don’t need roster fillers really.

  22. bergkampesdios

Since it looks like we’re done talking about the Tottenham Sp*rs finances, it needs to be acknowledged how low and classless ManU supporters are.

  23. Tno

    @Goat
That’s pretty weaksauce. My little brother’s Varsity baseball team (went on to win state, 3 kids signed to Pac 10 schools yesterday) wore pink wristbands and shoelaces for mother’s day. I looked pretty cool.
