Really, Who Throws A Shoe?

Armed With Her Feet

Fatoumata Diarra does, that’s who.

The Malian women’s player had to be restrained as she went after the referee with her boot at the final whistle of the team’s loss to hosts South Africa at the African Women’s Championships earlier this week.

Mali officials blamed the referee for their loss against the Banyana Banyana (we’re guessing that means “the girls”), which, without having seen a single second of the match, we’re going to say is probably a stretch. Mali lost 4-0.

Overall, they were 1-2 in their three matches with a -8 GD. So that’s either a very well orchestrated referee conspiracy or Mali kind of blows at women’s soccer.

Said Mali manager Moustapha Laico Traore: “It is true that we have had disciplinary problems in the team since the tournament started. We might have to change our staff and some players when we get back home.”

Okay, this is kind of awesome. Not only do we have a Diarra and a Traore but we have more Malian women’s violence, which, given the vid a couple of posts down, we’re beginning to think might be something of a regular occurrence. You know, like Tuesday.

Even better the Malian women got in a fight with their own FA over money and bonuses before the tournament. We’re not going to bet against that turning violent as well.
