Samuel Eto’o is Headstrong

Rafael Benitez isn’t having the easiest time of things at Internazionale—6th place after 13 games, 9 points back from crosstown rivals, five-game winless streak (worst since 2004), only 14 goals scored (lowest total after 13 games since 1994)—but it won’t be made any easier by Samuel Eto’o and his powerful head.

Moments after tussling with Chievo defender Bostjan Cesar and getting a weak punch in the side of the head, Sammy E reciprocated with a very real strike:

Amazingly, the referee didn’t see it—he didn’t see either strike, in fact, not that soccer needs an eye in the sky or anything—but as with Luis Suarez, all will surely be set straight upon official review.

As for Rafa Benitez? Well, there isn’t much of a video review for incompetent management, though you can bet that he’s already circling the wagons and demanding team unity ahead of a potentially dispiriting clash with FC Twente midweek. Now that Eto’o, scorer of 8 of Inter’s 14 goals in 2010/11, is likely to face a ban, he’ll have to release his kung-fu grip on his uninspired tactics and overall cautiousness in order to rediscover what made this squad so damn successful last season.

Failing that, he could just start headbutting people.

  1. I listened carefully and did not hear anything sounding like Zidane or Zizou by the commentators. I am so disappoint.

    Wonder who taught him that?

  3. @Anon – near the 1:15 mark of the video. Pronounces it “Sinedine Sidane”
