Bundesliga strugglers FC Koeln have fired general manager Michael Meier. Meier had been with the Billygoats for five years, but the twin evils of poor signings and debt accumulation have done Meier in. Currently 16th in an 18 team—which sees the Billygoats in relegation—doesn’t help matters.
One wonders why he wasn’t sacked shortly after the recent annual meeting where club members were booing him and chanting ”MEIER, OUT!” whilst complaining of expensive beer. Perhaps the Koeln board just needed a swift kick in the pants to make it happen—Prince Poldi must have been very active this weekend.

Dear Santa–
Please send Cologne down and let Gladbach stay up.
Sincerely, corky
But Jonathan Spector is going to Cologne!
Well, Spector needs to go somewhere. Might as well be Cologne.
There have also been rumors about Spector being interesting to Werder Bremen too. Apparently being put into the shop window today, guess we’ll see how he does.
