Pop quiz, hot shots. Which is more important to our Spurs fans: moral high ground or wildly rich, new ownership? We may find out soon.
The above question may apply to American Spurs fans, a surprising number of which find shelter in the comments of this here blog (it’s not always anonymous shelter, but that’s not on us). Because, you see, the Qatar Investment Authority is said to be on the lookout for an EPL club to buy and number one on their list is Spurs. Which brings the question to our Yankee Yiddo base: Are you mad enough at Qatar/FIFA that this will impact your Spurs love, or is the prospect of having a super-rich owner enough to make you forget your hate from last week? It’s a Sophie’s Choice of club v. country, isn’t it?
Other commenters may want to shelve their guffaws for now, as a couple of other clubs are also on QIA’s radar. Everton and Newcastle are the rumored targets if no sale of Spurs can be arranged. So, Brian, Pradajames and others are welcome to throw in you two cents as well. I, for one, hope that QIA buy Everton and then buy ‘Cakes. That would be the ultimate FU for sending out this tweet, right?
Don’t worry, I’ll play along too. If QIA bought and invested heavily in Aberdeen, I’d write so many good things about them, the country and WC2022 that you would think I am on payroll. I’d still secretly hope the Cup got moved, though.

Would Spurs be renamed Tottenlamb in order to be halal?
oooh, that was good BG. Big :)
my cup frustration is not directed at qatar, but fifa. qatar played the game, so good for them. my only concern, as with any possible takeover, is whether or not the new owners would be willing to spend and committed to long term financial stability (aka swallowing a loss, cos that’s what it takes to compete at the top level these days.)
It won’t be Sp*rs: in general they don’t believe a jewish soccer state has a right to exist.
They better buy Spurs unless they can be an actual ya know responsible owner. I don’t want Everton to end up like Manchester Arabia, although I do have a good nickname if it does happen, the Arabian Toffees. Overall though this would kind of surprise me as there have been several investors for Everton in the past 5 years, but every time Bill Kenwright realizes he will have to sell and lose his power, so he ends up backing out of the deal. Basically I’ll believe it when I see it.
@TLL: Of all things, Arsene Wenger doesn’t actually swallow losses.
.
/Willing to stoop and compete at my level, eh?
@MW, that is because he makes his players swallow the losses
As long as the potential group provides stability and doesn’t pull a Pompey with fake Arabian owners, fine by me. Although it can be said Joe Lewis is a Brit, ENIC is a multinational with an ownership stake in Slavia Prague as well as Spurs. Not much moral high ground to be had it seems…
Nice gravatar, OM.
@ BG: It’s my yang to Jacob’s yin. Comes down after this soccer blog voting is done. Ryan was the inspiration.
You shouldn’t be pointing out the potential speck in Spurs fans eyes while ignoring the plank in your own. You manager stealing sonofagun!
/Kidding
I don’t care who owns Spurs, as long as the owners are good owners.
.
Also, Arsene doesn’t have to swallow. That comes after puberty.
Aw, Jeez. Because the last guy Aberdeen poached from Motherwell worked out perfectly. Plus, he’s going to retire in like two weeks.
@Jacob: Merry Christmas x2.
I’ll pass on that one. For now.
It’s bookmarked, though. Just in case.
Everton won’t get sold, cos Kentwright doesn’t want to give up the power…which I’m totally okay with. Much better having the little club that could than the big club that doesn’t.
I’m only here to help.
My Padres, Clippers, USMNT fan mindset might be too used to being a small fish. I don’t like this whole super rich owner thing. (I know Spurs aren’t a small poor club, but they’re not Man City)

Games in other countries, already bailing on the air conditioning idea. It’s not even 2011 yet and they’re already freaking out.
