  1. Outside Mid

@ Brian: So, you subscribe to the A-League way–doing the work of the Jesus?

  2. Outside Mid

    Old Lady time!

  3. @OM, unless the standards for refs begins to improve in this area then yes I do. Now if refs would begin to actually follow the rulebook then I would say the FA should stay out of it

  4. Outside Mid

Luca Toni up front–1st match for Juve?

  5. Outside Mid

@ Brian: I like the idea of penalizing the scuba divers later if it wasn’t caught during the match. Sometimes, the game play is so fast for a referee, it might be a bit unfair to castigate him for erring on deciding what was a dive and what wasn’t. It might not affect the outcome of the immediate match but it would send a message for the future and affect that side’s future if they are unable to use that player.

  6. Outside Mid

Also, was there a typhoon that hit Naples? Standing water on the pitch.

  7. Precious Roy

    A) Thought you said “That is all” twice?

B)”We won ergo everything is justified” is not an argument.

    C) From the Laws of the game “A player who attempts to deceive the referee by feigning injury or pretending to have been fouled is guilty of simulation.” Berbatov went down pretending to have been fouled. Just because Webb was too far upfield to actually see what happened and got the call wrong doesn’t mean Berbatov wasn’t guilty of simulation, and therefor cheating.

    D) You have to be blind, drunk or stupid to not see that United are the beneficiaries of dodgy calls WAY more than they are victimized by them. That’s not a FACT! But that doesn’t make it less true.

  8. @OM, yea that is definitely what I would like, but I also feel that a lot of stuff is somewhat ignored by refs, for example the goalkeeper being allowed to handle the ball for 6 seconds. Count the number of times a keeper will hold it for longer than that in a game, especially when their team has the lead. Also I think refs don’t deal with dissent well enough, if a ref starts handing out cards then maybe people would stop bitching at refs and just play

  9. Outside Mid

Speaking of dives–just had one in this Juve match. Then again, this is Italian football.

  10. Outside Mid

@ Brian: yeah, saw what you meant when commented on that earlier–never quite noticed it myself; recently saw some match where the player earned a yellow for not throwing the ball in timely–that hardly ever gets called.

  11. Outside Mid

@ Brian: Also agree on the dissent part; some players are in the ref’s face after every stoppage of play and it’s not needed. Some refs in the pro leagues really put up with a lot of guff on the pitch.

  12. Outside Mid

Toni’s trying to score his 1st for Juve all by himself–against 4 Napoli defenders. Not likely to work lad.

  13. Outside Mid

Aquaman! Lovely curl, just not enough.

  14. Precious Roy

Brian: Agree on the dissent thing. Way too much talking to and surround of the ref (Germans!). As for the six seconds… That I’m less anal about. Where did six come from? Is seems somewhat arbitrary. And I can see a legitmate scenario where collecting the ball, reading the defense and making a decision on where to play the ball can take more than 6 seconds. I’d rather see it increased to like 10 seconds, but then enforced without exception.

  15. Outside Mid

    There will be blood!

  16. Outside Mid

How many former Liverpool players are in this Napoli-Juve match? Already counted Aquaman and Dossena.

  17. Outside Mid

    Also, Lavezzi, great cross.

  18. Outside Mid

    Cavani!

  19. Outside Mid

Poor defending by Juve–far too much space for Cavani to run on to that cross.

  20. Outside Mid

Close to goofy 2nd by Hamsik.

  21. Outside Mid

Juve players afraid to block a ball with the body? It’s like they clear out when a shot flies at goal.

  22. Outside Mid

Ah! Toni denied his 1st Juve goal–offside call?

  23. Outside Mid

Can’t see why it’s denied, doesn’t look like Toni fouled the keeper there.

  24. Outside Mid

Cavani with the 2nd! This match is wide open.

  25. Outside Mid

Dossena with a nice cross on that Cavani goal.

  26. Precious Roy

OM: Just don’t want you to feel alone.

  27. jjf3

Damn, I turn away for a few minutes, and Napoli go up 2-0.

  28. Outside Mid

PR: Thanks. In Anon’s absence, thought it was obligatory to give love to Lavezzi and Cavani.

  29. Outside Mid

@ jjf3: You also missed a goal disallowed for Toni for some reason that wasn’t clear.

  30. Outside Mid

Going back to Orr’s preview, looks like he was dead on with this one–wide open, already 2 goals in for Napoli, but Juve look to not stay out of goal for the match.

  31. Outside Mid

Cannavaro should be employed by the TSA for pat-downs the way he’s been mugging Amauri in front of goal.

  32. Precious Roy

Hmm… anyone know where I can find out more about the chap who got the YC?

  33. Orr

Should see Del Piero early in the second to provide a bit more creativity up front

  34. Outside Mid

You mean the former Liverpewler Dossena?

  35. Outside Mid

Orr! Yeah, Toni’s been industrious but it’s not been that effective and Amauri’s been clamped. Which one comes off?

  36. Precious Roy

    Swap out Marchisio.

  37. Precious Roy

OM: My stream is lagging. I was making a joke about the Traore.

  38. Outside Mid

Ah, yes, the Armand flavor of Traore.

  39. Orr

Could do PR’s idea and have him play behind the strikers but thats basically what Aquaman is there for, I’d take off Toni as it stands i guess, though i’m not a big fan of Amauri

  40. Precious Roy

I’m calling a final of 3-2. Not sure who wins.

  41. Orr

I’m on record for 3-2 Napoli

  42. dan

I always hate the bullshit “all the other team had to do was score, and the crap call wouldn’t have mattered” argument. Fine. Maybe United should just start every game 1-0, not just today, because hey, all the opponent has to do is score and it doesn’t matter.

  43. Orr

Good save from De Sanctis, Juve looking good but they could get exposed

  44. Outside Mid

Do they typically light the stadium on fire when Del Piero comes on?

  45. Orr

Cavani gets the hat-trick! Great play from Napoli

  46. Outside Mid

Cavani with the hattie! Unstoppable for Napoli today.

  47. Outside Mid

Whoa, Mr. analyst–they’re going 2nd with today’s win? It’s not even 60 minutes in yet.

  48. Outside Mid

If the stadium hadn’t been set on fire, I could see the pitch a bit better/silly flares

  49. jjf3

that was lovely for the hat-trick

  50. Orr

Serie A: Where limited visibility is part of the fun

  51. Outside Mid

Time for drawing out free kicks for Juve to get back. That wasn’t a flop, but let’s see if Krasic on the other side starts going more horizontal the later this gets.

  52. Orr

That was a brave header for that last one from Cavani

  53. Precious Roy

Is that a glitch in my stream audio or are they setting off bombs in Naples?

  54. Outside Mid

@ Orr: Watching on TV or a stream is the stadium equivalent of “obstructed view”

  55. @PR, The 6 second sis a bit arbitrary, but it is an upgrade from the rule where keepers could only take 4 steps with the ball in possession. I don’t really care what the rule is personally, I just think it should be enforced, otherwise whats the point of the rule. I also think there needs to be clarification in general about players going up for a ball in the air, and especially against goalies because too many fouls seem to be called for a player just jumping straight up

  56. Orr

    Lavezzi! Too unselfish

  57. Outside Mid

How has Juve not scored yet? Thinking that disallowed goal in the 1st half really colored Juve’s play.

  58. Orr

2-1 at the half would have made it much different than 2-0, Juve were compelled to go for broke early and Napoli broke quickly for the 3rd

  59. Outside Mid

Orr: That’s what I was thinking–down 2 goals and chasing the game opened up Juve to be run ragged by Cavani. He killed off this match against the Old Lady. Napoli in the 2 spot–Anon might not remember to wet on the newspaper!

  60. Orr

I highly recommend watching the Milan-Udinese game on tape delay if everyone hasn’t already switched to throwball

  61. Precious Roy

    Watching it now.

  62. Precious Roy

    What. The. Fuck?

Who is that a pic of in my avatar and why is there an email I don’t recognize in my autofill?

  63. Anonsters

PR is an attractive lady! Hey, baby……..

  64. Uh oh PR broke ze interwebz

  65. bergkampesdios

Did home improvement all day and just watched Man U / Liverpool. Howard Webb is a donkey. That is all.

  66. Ryan

Just read some attractive Arsenal transfer news.
    Want a hint?

  67. Hannibal

    Well done, Ryan.

    Anon would be proud.

  68. jjf3

Ryan: You bastard! I’d somehow avoided that shot all along until now. All those attempts by Anon, and you get me now?

  69. Tno

    Bravo Ryan, bravo.

  70. You suck Ryan, first time in 6 months I’ve seen that picture

  71. Tno

    So
i’m watching the Madrid vs Villareal game right now. and Adrian Healey just told me that Jose Mourinho has not lost a home league game in 9 years… Seriously?!

  72. Ryan

Ha, sorry everyone. I wasn’t joking though.

  73. Outside Mid

    @ Ryan: That’s a 15% nominee methinks.

  74. Wacman

I wish you were lolk. Also, Tiote’s challenge was a straight red? Didn’t look that bad to me, but I supposed it was two-footed

  75. bergkampesdios

Ryan – even if Arsene did think a 36 y/o center back that can’t even get on the pitch at Newcastle is the answer for a title chase (huge grain of salt), he won’t be the only signing. With Squilacci out for a few weeks and Vermaelen on the shelf for even more, we need two. It won’t be Cahill or Jagielka, but more likely someone no one is even talking about.

  76. Ryan

I don’t know berg, I know Arsene has said he doesn’t like doing business in the January window because there aren’t many deals to be had, but surely when you get the chance to bring in an unfit aging central defender you have to do it right?
