Well, looks like some of you either stayed up late or got up super early to check the UEFA Champions League pairings handed down from on high. To those of you that watched it live, I’m not sure whether to be in awe for your dedication or give you my sympathies.
Anywho, here they are–feel free to engage in a bit of friendly banter. My favorite part–for Spurs to be on their way to Wembley, they’ll have to take down both juggernauts from the Iberian peninsula after having to overcome the city of Milan earlier in the competition. Most of us asked for it, and Tottenham certainly got it.
Quarter Final Matches April 5-6 and April 12-13
Real Madrid v Tottenham Hotspur
Barcelona v Shakhtar Donetsk
Chelsea v Manchester United
Inter v Schalke
Semi Final Matches April 26-27 and May 3-4
Inter/Schalke winner v Chelsea/United winner
Real/Spurs winner v Barca/Waxtap winner

No Atkinson, no Luiz, and 2nd leg at OT? I’m satisfied…
@ MP: Yeah, looks like United has their side as long as their defensive pairings can hold up/waits for conspiracy theorists on another favorable MUFC draw
I echo berg (I think) from the the other thread though–I like how Barca have to go to the Ukraine for the 2nd leg. Waxtap shocked Roma at home and cruised at home–think they have some fantastic home record or something.
The only way for an all-one country Final would be Spurs v. ManU or Spurs v. Chelsea. I don’t know why, but all-country finals, like ManU-Chelsea a few years back, bother me. I suppose I see ManU-Chelsea, Barca-Real, etc. enough in league play and league cups I want to see some international action going on in the CL.
I’m really looking forward to Barca/Shakhtar.
And again, the road laid out for Spurs isn’t ideal by any stretch, but their draw adds to the beauty of the thing. A match at the Bernabeu against the Merengues and Mou Mou. Having that lot at the Lane for a Glory Glory night–love it even if the odds will be atrocious of advancement.
@OM: Our injury list is longer than the Nile, but I was sure we’d be getting Barca (with the first leg at home) so I can’t really complain.
.
@Andrew: Completely agree. I also don’t know why, but I hate it.
Does anyone actually want to see Man U-Chelski again? At least it’ll be fun to see Jose’s take on Harry and Spurs.
Bring it on, Spain.
I made this bracket. The top team in each tie has the first home leg.

Who did Arsenal dr…oh, right. Damn.
I’m glad to see Yernited vs Chelsea. At least one of them has to get eliminated this way.
Sorry (not really) to anyone (Autoglass) offended by my Chelsea entry. That’s an in-joke among a group of friends. We always write “Wankers” then strike it out, before writing Chelsea in.
So if Barca and Real both advance, then they will play each other 4 times in 3 weeks (La Liga and Copa del Rey games as well).
@Andrew: Never apologize for that.
@Pete – yes. There’s been some hubub about that. Along the “just f*ck already and get it over with” lines…yawn.
