Holden Out For Six Months

Now that we have our open mic Stu Holden poetry slot out of the way, we should let it be known that the gash in his knee from Jonny Evans’ cleats will put the Bolton and USMNT midfielder out of action for six months. Holden announced that he will be having surgery today, but for what precisely is unclear.

I suppose Evans could have severed the medial collateral ligament with his tackle or perhaps the impact tore some other knee ligaments. Evans did call up Holden to wish him the best in his recovery.

This is the second time in a year that Holden has suffered an injury that will force him to miss significant time. Last year, Holden was “De Jong’ed” by Nigel De Jong in a friendly between the Netherlands and the USA that broke his leg. The injury almost caused him to miss the World Cup and likely reduced his playing time as he was just coming back from injury and not likely in full match fitness.

    It’s a good thing Evans was sent off before he could try to molest the gash he opened in fair Stuart’s knee.

    So… Nani cries death and is out 6 days, yet Holden emotes not one bit and is out 6 months?

    /Respects Holden that much more
    /Hates Nani that much more

    Evans’s tackle was reckless and bad, but de Jong’s was malicious.

    Holden has an amazing disposition about it though (at least on Twitter). He’s doing a good job winning my man-crush away from Deuce.

    Stu also is markedly prettier than duece, however, less rapping abilities

    Oh, and Jonny Evans is now both a rapist and NTKOP. And somehow is not even in the top 5 of feckless c*nts on his own team.

    JT’s comment x2.
    Also, seeing where the gash was, potential damage to the patella or he possibly shredded some cartilage as his knee bent in unholy ways. If it was just the MCL it wouldn’t take six months.

  7. @berg: I think the recovery on an MCL will depend on the severity of the tear. Frequently they don’t require surgery on the lesser injuries but if surgery were necessary maybe it would take longer. Six months on an ACL tear seems like a fast recovery though too.

    TFA – having had both knees reconstructed, 6 mos for an ACL is superhumanly short. Also unlikely an MCL alone would require surgery. Guessing it’s a combination of MCL, cartilage and bone bruising, or a partial of the patella tendon.

    This means MB4 will have the central midfield spot unchallenged going into another major tournament. I bet Huh Bob is relieved he doesn’t have to get shit for chosing his son… Oh my god. Bob Bradley ordered both hits on Stu! Conspiracy!

    I don’t know tno, I think MB has earned his spot without accusations of nepotism. What it does do though is free Bob from having to choose Stu over Jermaine Jones, which might have been tough for him.

    @Ryan
    Holden/Jones is the best Midfield combo we have IMO.

    It could be a 4-1-4-1, or Jones could drop back to become a 4-2-3-1

    I agree on Holden, I don’t think Jones has done enough to surpass Bradley though, as Mikey killed it at the World Cup and both have had similarly up and down seasons.
    Of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention Rico Clark here.

    @Ryan
    Jones is getting 90 minutes every week. That is enough for him to pass Bradley in my opinion. It really is amazing to see how a guy can go from starting a game in a World Cup, to not even getting mentioned at all in NT discussions.
