This is from Sunday’s match between Asociación Juventúd Católica de Rio Segundo (Catholic Youth, for short) and Deportivo Laguna Larga, somewhere down in the mucky lower divisions of Argentine soccer. The clip only started making the rounds yesterday, though.
When match referee Hugo Vega decided that a foul by a Catholic Youth player merited expulsion, the players reacted by attacking him and his officiating crew, chasing them around the pitch. Vega was knocked down and spent several minutes on the ground after the savage beating.
Catholic Youth’s squad is managed by local parish priest Alejandro Aguirre, who I’m sure will be getting a call from the bishop about this. No word on how many Our Fathers and Hail Marys that players will have to say as pennance for their actions.

This goes beyond the field…they should be arrested.
