Company Hooks Up Real Salt Lake Fans

Real Salt Lake fan?

A Utah company is reeling in big business with Real Salt Lake fans, although the RSL fans are anything but happy about it since it involves the company towing their cars while they attend games. To the tune of 2,600 tows since 2008 from a single lot near the Rio Tinto Stadium.

It is not clear whether all of those tows came during RSL matches. But, if it did there were 43 home dates between September 2008 averaging about 60 tows per match. At $275 a pop that is over $700,000 in revenue for one towing company from one lot in less than 2.5 years.

The parking lot for an abandoned Lowe’s store is a veritable gold mine for Speedy Towing and perhaps the property lot manager. Matthias Kellmer, the property manager for the lot, in response to allegations that he was making money off the tows said, “Do we make money on this? Absolutely not. We do not collect a single dime on this.”

Me thinks he doth protest too much.

Kellmer declined to show his contract with the towing company to prove his point.

There had been numerous complaints about the towing to local authorities, particularly about the signage warning of the tow potential. Regardless, this sounds like the typical tow company/property manager ploy when there is a potential of towing non-customers. Surely somebody from the management company sits out there at each game watching the parkers and then radioing the tow company to tell them whom to tow.

Kellmer must be making more from the towing than what he could make by charging people to park there during RSL matches.

  2. Andrew, I guess

“Hey, Rocco? Yeah, it’s Dan, down at ShenaniganZ. Yep, got another one for you.

    Not on my watch.”

What does the King of Salt Lake have to say about this? Surely such a proud, royal, franchise cannot abide this.

  4. Georger, how come you can’t spell your avatar name properly?

  5. Georger, exclusively

I don’t know but chrome spellchecks that field and I was sober, there’s no real excuse. I’m going with “being blinded by the continuing stupidness of Real Salt Lake’s name.”
