Professional soccer in Japan may be on hiatus due to the earthquake/tsunami disaster and Japan may be pulling out of the Copa America tournament this summer, but that doesn’t mean soccer is not being played in Japan. As this video shows, football/futbol/calcio/soccer is alive and well (maybe not well played) in the Land of the Rising Sun as members of the Israel Defense Forces play a pickup game with local youths.
We may have a cynical bent here at UF; and post negative stories more often than uplifting and motivational stories, but at heart we all love this game to our very core. We know that in the grand scheme of things it may not matter much but it has the power to brighten dark days and uplift those who may be at a personal nadir. We are thankful this game can do that for us and for others.
