You forgot the Goat-Fan’s Attic Death Match of Doom (Crew-Timbers).
Oh. Nevermind.
that’ll learn ya!
2 very nice goals from United today.
Greetings from the RFK pressbox, apparently this pressbox isn’t a separate room, so I am baking in a wonderful pressbox, but there is free food
eat as much as possible
@NYK, don’t worry I am, they ran out of frikkin water, how the hell does that happen
@Brian: are you going to provide us with an informal liveblog?
@Goat, of course, here are lineups and we are just about to kickoff
Everton Starting Lineup: Mucha, Coleman, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, Anichebe, Rodwell, Barkley, Bilyaletdinov, Cahill, Vellios
Everton Bench: Davies, Neville, Heitinga, Osman, Gueye, Beckford, McAleny
D.C. United Starting Lineup: Hamid, Lorb, McDonald, Jakovic, Burch, King, Morsink, Da Luz, Ngwenya, Wolff
D.C. United Bench: Cronin, Willis, Kitchen, White, Woolard, De Roasario, Pontius, Shanosky, Simms
Time Howard and DC United captain Josh Wolff are exchanging “Gifts” aka DC United is appeasing fans who didn’t get to see Howard play
dammit, Everton are going to break our defender before we have time to buy him!
Early chance for United as they play someone through, but his chip over Mucha is to soft and Coleman and Distin are easily able to stop it
Goal Anichebe!!!! Anichebe runs onto the through ball on the left side of the box, and Anichebe hits it over Hamid, Hamid wants that one back
Oh and Baines had the assist, shockingly enough, 4th minute
Baines with a deep cross, but Barkley can’t meet it and it goes out for a throw. The throw results in Coleman being spring, but is dispossed in the box. D.C. United counter, but Rodwell fouls them at midfield
D.C. United with some excellent possession, and Everton gets frustrated before they foul D.C. United about 30 yards out slightly to the left
Kick deflects off the top of the wall for a corner, was a well taken one at that. Corner long and headed back in to the PK mark, and D.C. United has a man wide open but he pushes it wide of the post
Anichebe then played into the box, but his shot/cross is pushed by Hamid away, D.C. counters but is stripped by the defense
Some passing between Everton at the top of the D.C. United box results in Billy being sprung, and he slides it under a sprawling Hamid. Barkley with the assist there in the 16th minute
man, Gnarls Barkley is really playing well
Barkley misses just wide of the post, he combined with Billy to get sprung, but he couldn’t beat Hamid and put the ball wide. Theyoung D.C. United keeper is busy tonight. Everton most of the possession now but only 3 serious chances
DCU sucks.
Barkley gets off a tame shot, and we have stopped play in the 24th minute for a quick water break, nice decision by the ref
We are back, and D.C. United gets off their own tame shot that Mucha smothers, those Everton GK jerseys are worse in person than in pictures
Has Charlie Davies dove yet?
Cahill with a YC free kick 25 yards out
Mucha with the save, beautiful kick but the Slovakian did well to keep it out
D.C. United player tries to put it in the back post at an extreme angle from the left, but it hits the crossbar, think USWNT vs France
@Goat, Davies is out with a left knee sprain
Najar had the crossbar shot I think
Anichebe totally just shoved Najar as Anichebe was trying to shield the ball 36th minute and nothing really happening, just changes of possession between the boxes
Coleman plays the ball down the right to Billy who plays it back and Coleman lashes it over the bar. Wolff just subbed out for Pontius. Mgwenya then has a fantastic shot near post that Mucha saves, out for a corner that amounts to nothing
And there is the classic anichebe, turns and shoots on the ground from 40 yards out
Barkley by himself after ANichebe is brought down does well to carry forward and lay off to COleman who loses it, D.C United get the down the right but the shot is blocked
Anichebe sprung by Cahill into the box, he muscles the defender and tries to shoot but can’t turn enough and it is well wide
Rodwell with some space about 30-35 yards out but sends it wide, Ngwenya then gets free on the goal kick, but Coleman and Jags do well to cut the angle and Mucha makes a diving far post save comfortably
I can’t believe Pontius is playing so soon after the death of his good friend Ryan Dunn
Halftime, I’m going to unstick myself from this chair and get water and food, mainly water
De Rosario is in, keeper change, and Ethan White, ConorShanosky on field for D.C United
Gueye in for Barkley
Osman in for Vellios
FUCK FUCK FUCK Pontius scores on a ball over the top, beats Mucha. Defense was sleeping 2-1 Everton
he did it for Ryan Dunn!!
/beating a dead
Jackass starhorseAnichebe is limping off with an injury, and youngster Conor McAleny is in
Short corner by Gueye is crossed in by Baines, Cahill gets a head on it but the ball goes wide
Rodwell and McAleny combine well, Rodwell tries to curl far post, out for a corner, corner taken and headed by Billy, it is cleared off the line and he gets another crack but it goes wide
0-0 at the half in the Crew-Timbers match for those interested.
Pontius cuts in from the left and tries to beat Mucha near post, but he tips it onto the post and it goes wide for a corner. SHIT SHIT SHIT Distin is down and in pain
Announced attendance is 12,789
Everton look dead, not running just clearing the ball. Neville and Heitinga coming on
D.C. with a good look off a corner, but its headed wide
Why such shitty attendance?
YEA GOAL GUYEYE. Beckford sprung on the left by Gueye, and he takes it down the left and crosses it to the backpost where Gueye does well to slide it in at a tough angle 3-1 Everton in the 83rd minute
@Goat, the weather and they were only estimating 16-18k, they only sold lower deck tickets
McAleny almost had a beautiful goal from the top[ of the box as he tried to chip and volley the D.C. United off a Beckford flick
yeoman’s work, Brian. Hope you enjoyed the pressbox. Take some food before you leave.
Crew got screwed–ball crossed the line off a corner before being cleared off the crossbar but ref wasn’t having it.
Timbers announcer just called Emilio Renteria “Edgar.”
Gaven scores off a goal mouth scramble. Suck it, TFA.
@Goat – I got to shake Brian McBride’s hand last weekend at the Crew v. Earthquakes match. You jelly?
Goal now credited to ManU talisman Own Goal.
@NYK: I’m totes jelly! Seriously. That’s awesome. You say anything to him? Were you in C-bus when he was inducted into the Circle o’ Honor?
yeah. I gave him the “thanks for everything on the USMNT, glad your nose healed nicely” and he laughed.
Awesome.
What were you doing in Columbus?
Crew win 1-0. TFA owes me a six pack of Rogue.
me and the guys on my rec footy team try to go to 1 USMNT and 1 Crew match every year. A little less than 4 hours from here to C-Bus. Left Saturday morning, watched France lose to the Aussies at a BW-3 in Bowling Green, pre-gamed at the official Crew bar (4th Street), sat in the 3rd row of the supporters section at the match, drove back Sunday morning and got home in time to watch the USWNT lose.
Sounds like good times.
yeah, we’re a fun bunch. And we won our rec league match that Sunday afternoon with our GK (me) and 3 of our starting defense hungover. 4-1.
Sat in Nordecke?
yeah, in the Nordecke. Other side of the aisle from La Turbina
I can imagine. You seem like a ray of sunshine.
That’s awesome. Later all. Thanks for the impromptu liveblog, Brian.
No problem guys, greatgame and I got to talk to jagielka and Moyes after the match
I was in section 216, so the ball into Beckford on the Guyue goal was right at me. Great interplay. McIlheney looks, how you say, shit. Kid’s full of running, but has the touch of a Jonny Evans.
*McAleny and Guyeye

Hey! UF was hard at work! I sweat my ass off in NYC this week.
@Orr, wasn’t sure if you managed to go to them at ManU game, but post game press conferences are very relaxed, actually got a bunch of questions answered.
Also I Anonster’d this bootroom
Jon Busch not exactly pleased with the officiating tonight v. RSL.
@Brian – The ones at Gillette were extremely short, and I had already seen Nicol and Ferguson and geeked out more about getting up close to the players.
@Orr, we got Jagielka, Pontius, Moyes, Olsen, and then headed to the mixed media zone. I was basically in full geek mode the entire time
@Brian – Yeah, and I couldn’t ask for any autographs. Aren’t we called unprofessional foul for a reason? Damn journalistic ethics
I was actually ok about no autographs, but I’m more about meeting the players than getting anything signed
Also RSL’s coach had to be restrained from running up the tunnel after Jon Busch, things are getting fun in MLS
Yeah I didn’t really care either, it was really cool. I’ve got pics and a shiny badge to show for it anyways.
Also, here’s Cahill doing what Cahill does.
