When not hearing what having a lower credit rating for the US means–beyond Obama not being able to refinance the White House for a lower rate–you might have seen that London’s currently on fire. Well, not all of it, but it’s been spreading. What began as a protest against police action in the North London neighborhood near Tottenham’s home ground has since spread to rioting in other parts of the city, with police cars being smashed and torched, homes being lit up, and reports of looting anything from florists’ shops to electronic shops.
It’s so crazy, they’re not even stealing HD televisions–standard def too!
Thus far, the official word from Tottenham is that this weekend’s match against Everton is still going to be held, but it’s Monday–let’s see what is said if this keeps up longer.
You know what London needs right now? James Brown. The Godfather kept Boston from rioting in 1968 after MLK’s assassination because everyone there knew he was superbad and would steal your soul if you did. Forget David Cameron & Boris Johnson for sorting it out–London needs Soul Brother Number One.
Grant Wahl Q & A with Klinsmann. “You only improve by taking risks.” [SI]
And on the subject of risks, Tracksuit in talks to become Egypt’s national coach. Does Baby Bradley have dual citizenship? [Soccernet]
Missed this from before, but worth a pop. Balotelli to MLS? Not sure if this argument holds any water. [BPFootball]
Huth! Top scoring defenders in the top Euro leagues. [TB11]
Oh, Henry. Red Bulls seem to be the team to play in MLS to get healthy again. [NYT Goal]
Speaking of MLS, Omar Bravo–you can’t do that in a rec league match and not get sent off, chief. [Dirty Tackle]
And finally, might there be rioting in Italy next if Serie A players go through with a strike? Club captains send out an early warning. [WaPo]

Didn’t serie a threaten to strike last season too? Do they think they’re french?
I was unaware Bravo enjoyed the same class as Blanco and Marquez.
I really don’t think that should have been a RC on Bravo. I mean, I’m all for the sending off of any member of El Tri, but that was not the right call.
Can’t tell if that was sarcasm, but I think that has to be a red. 2 feet, studs up, that’s the kind of junk that needs to be wiped out of MLS. Or any league really.
Quasimodo and F*ckpants seem to have a new partner in crime.
BTW, all the news on the YY Twitter from across the pond is that all London EPL matches are off for Saturday, by request of the London police.
Apparently there is also some rioting in Liverpool as well now. WTF are they rioting about?
I <3 Arlo White. Omar Bravo is a twunt. That is all, carry on.
@Brian — it started b/c of a “disputed” police shooting (which, from what I can tell, was a police shooting of an unarmed man who police claimed was shooting at them), but general economic and other shitty conditions turned it into a bigger thing.
.
(Feel free to correct me, anyone.)
Wahl did a great job of interviewing Klinsy. Asked the right questions, and Klinsy gave good responses.
Also, I’m absolutely turgid with anticipation for both the USMNT Bootroom tomorrow, and the Prem Bootroom on Saturday.
Now, see, in South America if you cancelled the weekend’s league schedule over some street riots, you would get even more street riots. Play on, gents.
Thats a great interview with Klinsmann..good to see a guy who can explain a bit why he picked who he did and, well, just answer questions well.
