Klinsmannschaft Bootroom: USMNT v. Mexico

Juergen Klinsmann ready to soil the field.

Well, now it is time to see what Juergen Klinsmann is going to do with the Klinsmannschaft, nee USMNT. This game will be a referendum on his entire tenure given he has had all of one week to prepare for the match and precious few training sessions with the players. This doesn’t temper my expectations one bit. I expect Germany 2006 2.0 from the US now.

He’s the Soccer Whisperer, right? He’ll just say sweet, delicious German things from his unicorn dusted tongue in the players ears and they will magically become more technically proficient and understand defensive tactics on a world class level. Right?

No?

Call me crazy, but I don’t think we will learn much about Klinsmann or the USMNT in this match. Sure, he called up some guys who had been ignored under Bob Bradley but he also left a number of players at home to tend to club business. Who knows if those other guys will even get playing time tonight. This is only a friendly and is Klinsmann’s first opportunity to assess the player pool up close. The result doesn’t matter ultimately.

However, I still want to beat the tar out of El Tri. So, Klinsmann, if you are reading, win or you’re out!

    US in a 4-2-3-1 featuring…
Howard; Cherundolo, Orozco Fiscal, Bocanegra, Castillo; Jones, Beckerman; Donovan, Bradley, Torres; Buddle

  2. Why do we now have Mexican commentators on the pregame

  3. Fuckpants is playing, I hope he dies in a fire

  4. Taylor Twellman wins the pregame

  5. The pedestal that holds the official match ball is making the ball rotate, why the hell do they spend money on that shit

  6. TD Ocho

    Let’s go Florida!
    Clap clap clap clap clap

  7. Hugo Dirty Sanchez

Who is this Mexican commentator with the raspy voice?

  8. I don’t know, but I kinda like him despite the whole Mexican thing

  9. Han-ball

Curse you ESPN…who wants to watch the LLWS anyways? Cut em off!

  10. Hugo Dirty Sanchez

It looks like it’s Jorge Ramos…from Uruguay (soy celeste), not Mexico

  11. He couldn’t score that again if he tried. Bradley was mugging him and it still went in

  12. Han-ball

    We’re just. not. as. good.

  13. Han-ball

Also, thanks again ESPN, for the LLWS so I missed the goal.

  14. Ryan

I’ve liked seeing Jose Torres do Jose Torres things this half.

  15. Pull Jones, slide Bradley back and put someone in the central mid spot. Bradley is to used to sitting back

  16. Han-ball

Not sure why that’s a foul, much less a yc as beckerman impales himself on Juarez’s studs

  17. @Han, this ref hasn’t exactly showed his talent today

  18. Ryan

I can haz Brek Shea? Plz?

  19. WhoNeedsForwards

I’ll be honest, I had to come here to look at who was playing tonight because it looked to me like the US wasn’t playing with a left back. Very disappointed; I like Castillo. Beckerman is what he is, Bradley has done nothing..Stu Holden, healthy in that role, that could be something.

  20. Han-ball

Ryan: friend of mine got some of Sheas old boots from the Bradenton academy..And he’s a douche.
    /required Brek-Shea-is-a-douche blurb.

    True, Brian.

  21. Outside Mid

I’ve no clue how this first half looked considering I had to spend the time filling out my kid’s school forms.

  22. Outside Mid

But a though occurred to me–excited to see what Klinsmann does with lads like Lichaj & Chandler in fullback positions. Carry on.

  23. Outside Mid

    Or, a thought even. Jeez.

  24. @OM, see second half June 25 2011
    Location: Pasadena, California

  25. WhoNeedsForwards

Seriously took me a minute to figure out who that was without Captain Murphy.
Anyways, I’m glad Klinsmann remembered that folks other than Suburban White Kids play soccer in the US at least.

  26. WhoNeedsForwards

I think the announcers inadvertently said Kyle Beckerman is a guy people think are good until they watch him play up close.

  27. Outside Mid

    @ WNF: I know, bizzaro, isn’t it?

  28. Ryan

Shockingly, going 1 v 3 vs the Mexican defense isn’t working very well.

  29. Han-ball

Bocanegra just got embarrassed trying to mark fuckpants.

  30. WhoNeedsForwards

Man, watching the US play just irritates the hell out of me. I’m going to go grocery shopping right now. Not kidding.

  31. @WNF at least it rdayputs us in the mood to watch Everton on Satu

  32. RFCSean

I know it Jurgen’s first match, but this USMNT looks more disorganized than in past matches. I feel they’re regressing. Much work for the German to do.

  33. @RFC, when you look at who he picked though it isn’t hard to see why. My guess is the September matches are going to look a lot different

  34. Harked you would be wrong about that offside call if that’s what you think.

  35. MP

I’m gonna have the biggest boner when Stu Holden finally joins this team.

  36. @MP, as big as TSE when Gigg’s scores?

  37. Ryan

These aren’t the Philly fans I know!

  38. Ryan

    TALISMAN ROBBIE ROGERS

  39. OOOSSAAAAA!!!! OOOSSSAA!!

  40. Outside Mid

Baby Bradley OUT. Rogers, Get in!

  41. Outside Mid

I wonder if he likes Phil Collins?

  42. Ironic, my above post about Rogers was a sarcastic post about his substitution, funny how that worked out

  43. Outside Mid

Torres! Needs to get a more stylish haircut. That’s what’s kept him out of this squad, style.

  44. Ryan

Faint sounds of crying from an Egyptian hotel room.

  45. Outside Mid

Ian Darke reveals Rogers once played a tournament with Herr Klinsy. What does it mean? Rogers = Regular roster spot. He’s Juergy’s boy.

  46. Ryan

No love from the Jamaicans tonight.

  47. Outside Mid

I’ll take a cheese steak over freedom. It’s tastier.

  48. Ellis Carver

While Rogers did score the goal, we should take a moment to applaud Brek Shea getting free to cross and Salcido LOL-worthy marking.

  49. Outside Mid

    He’s a box to boxer.

  50. Outside Mid

Does this performance by Rogers mean anything? General question.

  51. Han-ball

OM: nope. As seen by that last shot, he is still Robbie Rogers.

  52. Ryan

I feel Darke is lending a gravity to Jorge leaving the booth that it doesn’t deserve.

  53. WhoNeedsForwards

So apparently I actually missed something…and Brek Shea is actually fairly good.

  54. Ryan

    MLS MVP Brek Shea.

  55. Outside Mid

    @ Han-ball: That’s what I thought. Shea looks a tasty biscuit though.

  56. MP

Torres has been outstanding this half.

  57. MP

@Ryan: I couldn’t wait for Jorge to get the fuck out of the booth.

  58. @Ryan, Darke is trying not to cry because he is now stuck with Harkes

  59. Ryan

    Whoa. Robbie Rogers.

  60. Outside Mid

    I would think that’s a red card.

  61. Han-ball

    Wrong. Ridiculous.

  62. Steve

OK how the fuck is that not a red?!?

  63. BK Blue

Which was more painful, Jorge’s comment about Donovan passing to himself or Darke’s pronunciation of ‘Aguilar’?

  64. hockalees

That’s GOT to be a red card, no?

  65. RFCSean

Are you fucking kidding me!!!! That’s a textbook red. Hey Ref, Suck on my balls!

  66. MP

Never seen a more obvious red card.

  67. Ryan

No justification for a yellow there.

  68. Han-ball

Robbie Rodgers – the new Robbie Findley Fast?

  69. That is a fucking red card.

  70. Ryan

    Nice work there Kyle.

  71. Outside Mid

    @ Han-ball: Robbie Rocket?

  72. WhoNeedsForwards

    Ah, an Agudelo sighting.

  73. WhoNeedsForwards

Robbie Really Not Actually That Good is my vote.

  74. MP

    Jesus fucking Christ, Ricardo.

  75. Han-ball

…aaaaand, Rico Clark is still NGE.

  76. WhoNeedsForwards

Also, seriously, why on earth is Ricardo Clark still getting any minutes ever?

  77. Ryan

Fresh Legs Clark wastes a decent chance.

  78. RFCSean

    Ricardo Clark, oy!!!

  79. RFCSean

    The Kids are alright!!!

  80. WhoNeedsForwards

Anytime they mention “workrate” of a player, I instantly think they have no real talent. I don’t know if this is just me or not.

  81. MP

@WNF: Same here. Either that, or they had a terrible game but ran around a lot.

  82. Ryan

    English equivalent: “Full of running”

  83. Goat

Hop on, boys. There’s plenty of room on this Robbie Rogers bandwagon for everyone.

  84. Ellis Carver

@Goat The only ones getting on the Robbie Rogers bandwagon are the people turned away from the Brek Shea bandwagon.

  85. you guys can have the rogers and shea bandwagons. i’m still on the agudelo bandwagon.

  86. I like the Bun Boo Ree myself.
