Durrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Think they'll buy it?
Manchester City Chief Executive Garry Cook must think we are all imbeciles with the bullshit excuse he is trying to feed everybody regarding his insensitive response to the mother of Nedum Onuoha during negotiations over Onuoha’s contract.
Just to recap the situation, last year Dr. Anthonia Onuoha, Nedum’s mother, sent Garry Cook an email stating she would continue to represent Nedum even though her body was “ravage with cancer and ongoing chemotherapy.” Cook then sent an email to Brian Marwood, another City administrator, mocking the email writing “Ravaged with it!!……I don’t now how you sleep at night. You used to be such a nice man when I worked with you at Nike. G.” Dr. Onuoha was copied on the email.
While it took a year for this issue to come to light, Garry Cook denied he originally sent the email when Dr. Onuoha confronted him with it. His excuse? Some employee at the club had hacked his email account and sent the email. An internal inquiry was allegedly begun and the “practical joker” disciplined. Furthermore, he could not have sent the email as he was in South Africa at the time.
Yes, because there is no way in hell such a ass-backwards country like South Africa could ever provide internet access. Moreover, Onuoha allegedly responded the next day after receipt and Cook replied via email. So, apparently being South Africa was not a barrier to him sending the offending email.
I generally ascribe to the bastardized version of “Occam’s Razor” that the simplest explanation is most likely the correct one. So, what seems simplest?
A. Cook accidentally “replied all” to Dr. Onuoha’s email sending the patronizing message to Marwood and Onuoha.
Or,
B. An employee of City wanted to sabotage Garry Cook, who has done a pretty good job over the years himself, and somehow hacked into Cook’s email account, drafted an email to Marwood and Onuoha mocking her illness in order to accomplish something, who knows what, involving a lesser light in Manchester City’s galaxy.
Call me silly, but I don’t really believe Cook’s account. At some point this whole “my account was hacked” explanation for damaging messages, tweets, cell phone pics, etc. simply has to die. When was the last time it was true? The next time will be the first time.

Even Ryan would have to admit Cook is an idiot.
Yeah, I can’t remember ever really defending Cook on here. Not too worried about this thing though; if he lied, he should be fired, end of. Apparently the VP in charge of whatever exactly Cook does is well qualified, so shouldn’t be a huge loss.

The one thing I will say though, Dr. Onouha was sooooo upset about the email that it took 11 months to complain to the FA. Interesting that she got around to it in the days after Onouha didn’t get a move away, eh?
@Ryan: the timing is suspicious but let’s not lose focus on the fact that Garry Cook is an idiot. when it came out doesn’t really matter.
It doesn’t matter for determining if he’s an idiot, no. But of course the timing matters.
