Matchday two of the group phase of the Champions League is headlined by the match between Bayern Munich and Manchester City. An established European power against an upwardly mobile club with designs on joining that rarefied air. Citeh drew its initial CL match against Napoli, but claim that the nervousness is now out of the way and the team is ready to really dip its oar in the water and paddle against the current.
Bayern prevailed in its first match in the group play and has not given up a goal in almost 900 minutes of play since surrendering an opening day Bundesliga goal to Borussia Monchengladbach. Citeh will certainly test that streak with its bevy of attacking specialists.
Other matches of interest are Inter v. CSKA Moscow to see if the new manager can stop Inter’s slide with a victory (although he did get a victory in Serie A over the weekend); Real Madrid v. Ajax (currently good and was good back in the day v. currently mediocre and was good back in the day); and, Napoli v. Villareal. Oh, and Manchester United play an herb.
Predictions, may they be as wildly inaccurate as last week:
CSKA Moscow v. Inter – 2-2
Sunil Galati v. Benfica – 1-3
Real Madrid v. Ajax – 4-0
Bayern Munich v. Man City – 3-2
Manchester United v. Basel – 2-0
Lyon v. Dynamo Zagreb – 1-1
Napoli v. Villareal – 2-1
Trabzonspor v. Lille – 1-0

So if anyone needs another reason to hate Barca, apparently they are complaining to Nike that their jerseys absorb too much sweat and slow them down
We’re headed toward the third installment of the Barca v. United CL final trilogy aren’t we? Somebody wake me when Arsenal has a new physio and my primary cheering motivation isn’t a meteor.
This Bayern game is restoring my faith in soccer.
@PR: would that be the “Return of the Jedi” or “Revenge of the Sith” installment?
Manchester United are doing their best Manchester United impression. Now up 2-0.
Both of these teams are full on attacking. Džeko should have scored early on though.
Tno: And Munich blew a good chance… then I lost my stream. I’ve got Napoli putting it to Villarreal now.
Micah Richards is a middle linebacker playing right back.
It looks like Yaya Toure switched to Puma from Nike. As did Aguero, and it looks as if Fabregas is switching to Puma as well. Making some pretty big moves.
Do all Arabic announcers sound like they are gasping for their last breath with ever call for the full 90 minutes? It’s kind of awesome and stressful at the same time.
Pigclimber should have scored there.
The first time I change it to the United game Bayern score.
The Mexican-German scores! At the third time of asking lol
Mario Gomez poached a goal, who would have thought?
I can’t even make out the clock to see how far behind my stream is… I still have zeroes.
Gomez poached another one.
I feel bad for Joe Hart.
Solid keeper on a squad that’s spent a couple hundred million on mercenary talent that’s in the CL. What, exactly, is to feel sorry for?
@Tno, He looked like he was about to go super saiyan…
At half: No ties, no scoreless, but only one team has scored in each (excluding the early match).
That should have been Aguero off.
Never mind… replay was clean.
There’s the old Mancini. Down 2-0 bring on De Jong for Džeko.
Now Manchester United are doing their best Arsenal impression. 2-2.
De Jong for Džeko, Milner for Nasri. Really goin for it.
I wouldn’t have even known Nasri was out there from watching if not for his being subbed off.
Basel got a penno…
…Frei converts. 3-2 Basel.
United are going to get a late goal or two… Right?
Yep they are.
Young has a good header on the back post. Level at three.
Oh you’re fucking kidding me.
You knew that was coming.
Holy shit De Gea almost De Gea’d the shut out of that. This referee needs to watch out.
They should put up two numbers at OT. One for stoppage time, the other for Fergie time… At least be honest about it.
Can’t wait to hear the fallout from Tevez refusing to warm up tonight. Also, United for Europa League.
Apparently Zabaleta is also having a mini-revolt. Maybe he and Tever are in league.
PR: He *allegedly* slapped Tevez in the tunnel. Not much of a league.
But my goodness, what a tire fire.
Spurs-City is going to be fantastic Europa League quarterfinal. Best league in the world and all that.
Wow, Mancini is pissed in his press conference on the BBC’s website. Calls out Tevez of course, but also lays into Dzeko.
But LOL so many forwards, right?
I’m sorry, something other than FIFA 12 happened today? I missed it.
@Ryan: I’d argue that all of these strops are a result of having, yes, too many forwards. And it’s testing Mancini’s man management skills, which are not great given his rage issues.
Yes, and if there weren’t strops, it would be because there were so many forwards as well. If the won lots of games, so many forwards. Lost lots of game, so many forwards. It’s a brilliantly unfalsifiable theory, I’ll give you that.
