The next 5 days will be a Serie A smorgasbord chock full of intrigue and surprises.
Like the Double Stuf Oreo before it, this preview renders its singular predecessor totally obsolete.
With each squad in Italy’s top flight set to play two matches, there are many points to be won and lost. When the dust settles we’ll have a clearer picture of what each team needs in the transfer window to make a realistic push to achieve their goals whether they be silverware or survival.
Seeing as there will be two rounds between now and next Friday, I’m going to try something a bit different this week.
Don’t worry, I’ve kept the WAGs.
I’ll break down each day of upcoming action, highlighting the best matches and players to watch. I’ll follow it up next Friday with a recap of all the action and a brief look at the season so far and what’s to come as well.
Try to keep up!
Saturday, December 17
I’m going to start with a total cop-out. There’s only three games on Saturday and I think they’re all going to be good.
I always think watching Milan is good, and they need a strong response following their stumble in Bologna last time out. Siena look like they could be the unfortunate whipping boys at the San Siro. They are a well organized side though, so the Rossoneri would do well to dispatch of them early.
Elsewhere, Chievo welcome Cagliari to Verona. The visitors come in 6 places ahead of the Flying Donkeys, but just 2 points clear. It’s still congested in the middle of the pack in Serie A and every match can still see teams leap upward or drop precipitously in the table.
Atalanta and Fiorentina both have 16 points, though La Dea has been the far better side. I like La Viola at home in this one though. Look for the young Montenegrin Stevan Jovetic to get back to his scoring ways at home in Florence.
Sunday, December 18
Wow. This is a great day for Italian football.
It kicks of early with the always explosive Derby di Sicilia. Catania and Palermo split the series last year, each with a comprehensive victory, but it’s the Elefanti’s more recent 4-0 thrashing that is still fresh in the collective memory.
Palermo are still riding high in 6th, but Catania are a tough nut to crack at home. This is one not to miss.
At the same time, Novara will try to play giant killers in Turin. It would be something if the tiny biancoazzurri could finally be the ones to defeat the mighty Old Lady.
Meanwhile, Mutu’s on a scoring streak. 3 in his last 3! Can he take down Inter next? Let’s hope so.
The best is saved for last on Sunday however, as the late kickoffs are sure to produce some of the weekend’s best highlights.
Lazio welcome Udinese to Rome in what could become a battle of old masters, Klose v. Di Natale.
And Napoli take on AS Roma at the Stadio San Paolo. Both sides need to kickstart their campaigns if they have any designs on Champions League football.
Tuesday, December 20
Siena enter the break after a game at home. La Viola will put up a real resistance as the favorites, but I like Calaio and Destro combining to send Robur fans home happy for holidays.
Milan will need to be at their best to do the same for Rossoneri tifosi. They face a tough trip to Sardinia. The Brazilian duo of Pato and Robinho have one last shot to convince Berlusconi and Galliani that Tevez isn’t needed.
Wednesday, December 21
Wednesday starts off with a bang as Udinese host Juventus in the battle of bianconeri. This one is sure to be fast paced, end to end stuff.
Nothing else jumps off the page quite like that, but Inter will be looking to limp into the break on a relative high, and barring yet another catastrophe they should do so at home against rock-bottom strugglers Lecce.
Napoli will find they have their hands full at home with Genoa and a rejuvenated Rodrigo Palacio and we round it all off with Parma v. Catania.
Will it be Maxi Lopez’s last game in a Catania shirt? Silvio and Milan are lurking.
So there’s something for everyone in the coming days. Choose one to give Serie A a shot.

Funny, I like my bewbz double-stuffed as well.
/has no idea what that means
@MP – Is that two ladies? Or one lady with a sexy, sexy deformity?
I think I meant a regular lady with the standard number of bewbz that are twice as big as “regular”, whatever that is. But again, I really have no idea what I was saying.
Orr, I haven’t had Oreos in months, and now I’m craving some… you’re a horrible person. I’m graduating tomorrow, so I can’t watch soccer anyway, so SCREW YOUR PREVIEW!

@Wacman – Congrats! And don’t worry. The “real” world is often just as phony as college.
