A longtime fan of the FSC Report, I am extremely displeased Canada will be discontinuing the ‘Fox Sports World Canada’ channel (the Canadian version of FSC) across all cable providers, meaning that from next week on, I will be missing my daily dose of Eoin O’Callaghan, Michelle Lissel, and Bobby McMahon. I started looking around online for reasons for the channel’s cancellation and came across this.

I have to say: this is some pretty intense backroom drama, and also a great piece of investigative journalism TFA! Well done! Who knew? Jeremy was one of my favorite anchors on the show, I never even imagined he had been suspended due to problems with Lara (who personally, I always thought was pretty bad and only had her good looks going for her).

Interesting stuff.

That’s simply not true.

Now, sure, I will concede: I happened to pick a bad moment (i.e., 48 hours into a glut of post-Super Bowl coverage) to declare that there is “daily soccer post(ing)” at Deadspin. But the broader point stands: The site has become far more receptive to soccer in the past couple of years, and there is a steady drumbeat of posting. There’s a hell of a lot more soccer coverage over there these days, and it’s not just Anfield cats or periodic EPL rundowns.

Those posts do indeed “garner page views,” and the days of soc-cer? are long gone. They write headlines about “Messi” and “Ronaldo” and “Dempsey” and “Donovan” with the assumption that their readers are well-acquainted with these people.

Look, I don’t even particularly like Deadspin. I think that whole smarmy-irreverent-Gawker-tone thing feels more and more dated by the month (and is going to look embarrassingly anachronistic a decade from now). But they have beefed up their soccer coverage, in a significant way.

That’s all.

That’s hardly reverential. They have started to do a mostly-weekly run-down that’s more in depth but it’s Wednesday of this week and that post still hasn’t appeared; and 2% of content is hardly something worth coming to a post on a mothballed blog and raving about.

Also, if you’re going to gloat, at least have the courage to use real contact information.

Deadspin not only continued to cover soccer after the World Cup — they’ve become downright reverential toward the sport. They have daily soccer posts, and those posts most certainly “garner page views.”

So, I know this comment will not be seen by anyone but a few odd Google stragglers here and there. But I just wanted to get this down for the record: nah nah nah-nah nah!
